Checking against GA criteria[edit]

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
    • On the whole the article is reasonably well written - but I do find some instances which are not WP:NPOV and some clumsy phrasing. These include:
Today : Today, Manual combines traditional education with modern novelties. Can you find another phrase or word to replace novelties? Manual holds Kentucky's state record from 2000, would Since 2000, Manual holds.... be better?  Done In 2002, Manual became its own region - not sure how a school can be a region? Please clarify. The statements about the filming of The Insider and Jeffrey Wigan need referencing as previously noted by another editor.  Done
Sports : Though primarily known as a school focused on academics, Manual excels in several different sports as well. I would suggest something like Although primarily known as a school focused on academics, Manual also excels in in many sports.  Done
Campus life : The staff and administrators at Manual are all highly qualified in their respective fields, some holding a Doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent. Can you reference this and phrase more neutrally? Likewise, Many of the school's athletic coaches are also academic teachers, a symbolic reflection of Manual's balanced emphasis on academics as well as athletics, both areas in which the school has obtained considerable acknowledgement. Also, The Youth Performing Arts School, also of national recognition, is located nearby. - also of is ungrammatical, needs reference. Such a reference can be found on reference #2 Jezhotwells (talk) 13:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC)  Done[reply]
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
    • Reference #11 does not support the statement; The YPAS chorus was the only chorus to perform at the January 2001 inauguration... Reference #10 is a dead link and has been marked. Reference #11 needs to directly link to the pages that show the results, not the summary. Likewise Reference #12. Reference #13 is a dead link and has been so marked. Reference #14 needs to link directly to the results page for that year. Reference #16 needs to link to that years results. The sources that could be verified were all WP:RS. No obvious WP:OR. The first external link is dead. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:08, 11 April 2009 (UTC) Forgot to add: Reference #7 does not support James Samuel Coleman being an alumni. I reformatted reference #8 in appropriate citation style. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:29, 11 April 2009 (UTC)  Done Jezhotwells (talk) 00:00, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  3. It is broad in its scope.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
    • I find no evidence of edit warring, the article is stable. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:11, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    • All images are correctly tagged and licensed. The image used in the infobox needs a caption. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)  Done Jezhotwells (talk) 00:00, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
    • Several points as mentioned above need to be addressed. I am placing the artcile on hold. Please place comments on this page, rather than on my talk page. Jezhotwells (talk) 14:17, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I see some changes have been made but other points remain to be addressed. I have placed some tags, but I recommend editors to read the comments above. I would also recommend that the Alumni section is moved further down as it splits the article clumsily at the moment. Please comment here if you don't understand my points. Jezhotwells (talk) 12:41, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • OK all that remains are ref#11 ref#12 (now) which doesn't say that duPont Manual was the only school chorus at the inauguration, and a citation is needed for the school rules in Campus life as marked by the citation needed tag. Jezhotwells (talk) 07:47, 16 April 2009 (UTC)  Done Jezhotwells (talk) 00:00, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed a lot of these but regretfully I don't have the time to list them off checklist style. As for GA status, this article seems a bit too focused on recent history... I'll see what I can do. --Chiliad22 (talk) 16:27, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So I'm trying to fix all the references and such, but I've lost track of which have which problem because the numbers aren't the same anymore. Any help? Thanks. KhalfaniKhaldun 20:11, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked in the CJ and LEO archives as far back as they go and they simply don't mention Manual's courtyard policy. So that line might just need to come out... every student knows it's true, but there just isn't a reliable source. If no one can find a source and the line gets removed, the campus life section should probably be folded into the "academics" section due to lack of content. --Chiliad22 (talk) 18:36, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I found a reference for the choir thing, and removed the courtyard claim because I just don't think there's a source out there. It's too bad that the "campus life" section got whittled away by the process of actually finding sources for everything, but I guess newspapers just don't devote much space to that kind of thing. --Chiliad22 (talk) 19:53, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure the only way to source that would be able to find a printed version of school's policies, which I would be happy to request from the school myself if I weren't in Texas. I know they have official rules on where students are supposed to be at all times including lunch, though, because Keepers was always stressing how students aren't allowed to travel between YPAS and Manual on the second street sidewalk, but have to stay east of the buildings. Maybe we'll be able to work that section back into the article someday - especially if it is ever to become featured. KhalfaniKhaldun 23:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your regert about that. But that's what Wikipedia is all about, verifiablity, and sometimeas that is difficult to source. Well done. Pass GA. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:00, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
