Update required[edit]

To me (German journalist) the section »Problems with dual education« is complete nonsense. »Companies are becoming less willing to take on apprentices«? That might have been the case ten years ago. Presently the situation in Germany is quite different, there are many fields of occupation where companies are desperately seeking apprentices... I'd suggest to delete this part of the article. 62.245.135.254 (talk) 12:37, 16 September 2014 (UTC) (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Markus)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

quote: "3. Mechatronics engineer for the automobile industry (Kraftfahrzeugmechatroniker/in mit Vorgängerberufen) — 23,218"

Mechatronics engineer is a very bad translation of Kraftfahrzeugmechatroniker! An engineer is a person with an academic degree in engineering. Therefor i changed it to mechatronics technologist. 86.56.0.159 03:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need to make a comment on the talk page every time you make an edit. If you find a bad translation, just change it. Comments such as "this is very bad!" are unnecessary and will only annoy people. I'm sure that isn't what you intended. Saint|swithin 10:10, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The problems go deeper than that. The article was started in January 2006 as an aspect of the German/Swiss education system translated mainly from the fr, de articles. The de one was flawed as it is was POV on the then current failings. From an education standpoint, this was merely de moving to the system used in the rest of Europe. In 1978 I taught basic arithmetic to hairdressing students doing day-release at an FE college. They came into college two days a week- sent by their employers. de previously had a strng trade guild system where noone could work until they had got their ticket from the controlling organisation- translated as a union. See Modern Apprenticeships for the same system.
Broadly Wikipedians are academics who didn't leave school to enter a trade, and approach vocational education as anthropologists who have just discovered a new tribe. The article would have been written better if some comparative research had been done- this new tribe represents a huge percentage of the planet. But what is a Oven builder (see article lead)?
Moving onto the references- I looked at Handelsblatt (en) and some federal de official docs. They are appalling, written in Google-translate-Englisch. These are press-release spam, they do not pass our RS criteria. Before we try to add new sources we should cull the existing ones.
A little linguistic analysis shows that the title is wrong- Duales Ausbildung de translates directly into Duales vocational education the en have no single word for Ausbilding or indeed Lehrling.
Thanks to everyone who has tried to improve it- maybe delete is the best solution. ClemRutter (talk) 10:06, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
