Conflict of Interest[edit]

This article has been substantially copied from a magazine article. I have attempted to add balance by providing subject headings and some early years information, however this article is still far from satisfactory.

Another editor is not addressing the issues associated with the article, contenting himself with deleting the tags and holing the issue will go away - it will not!

The image is improperly tagged . It should be fair-use although the uploader is claiming it as his own and applying a Creative Commons Licence.

Until this article is substantially rewritten and provided with in-line citations from sources other that the original article and direct copies from the Bruce Power web site, it will remain a poor article and very close to by nominated for deletion. --Stewart (talk) 16:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having taken materials from a number of different companies, organizations, and conferences related to Duncan Hawthorne the material should be proven that an advertisement-type wiki file is not in question any further. In addition, the argument presented by Stewart stating that a "conflict of interest" was occuring should no longer be disputed. Should there be any differing opinion on the matter, one can easy find information pertaining to Duncan Hawthorne's career in the nuclear industry through a simple internet search-- of which, one will find the same theme of information that is presented in the wiki profile. Futhermore, upon deletion of the picture originally placed on the wiki, there was obviously a mistake in the manner of which the uploader went about doing so-- on a second attempt to properly upload the photo there was a dispute regarding the ownership of the photo, of which the uploader stated that the photo was open to the public. Again, this was ignored and the photo was deleted. Should the photography be uploaded again, it would be appreciated that one offer advice on proper uploading techniques as opposed to criticism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brad Razner (talkcontribs) 18:44, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The information given (apart from the stub section I put in regarding his period in Scotland) relates to the last seven years since the formation of Bruce Power. Duncan had worked in the Nuclear Industry for nearly twenty years before leaving the UK. The career details refered to above rlated to less than one third of his working career. As regarding the uploading of an image - adivce was given that fair use justification should have been provided. --Stewart (talk) 22:03, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contrary to popular belief Stewart, one does not rise to the role of CEO easily. Are you assuming that his early years in the industry should be more focused on than his time as a figure-head of the entire industry? If so, maybe re-writing Bill Gates profile to focus more on his first job or first computer would be up to your standards? I recommend you exercise some objectivities in your criticisms and justify your comments on a relevant scale-- maybe the early days of his career in the nuclear industry aren't elaborated to any great detail because, go figure, the early days of his career weren't anything overly impactual to the nuclear industry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.183.136.2 (talk) 13:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary - I am fully aware of the roles that Duncan undertook that laid the foundations of his rise to CEO. His role in the TOP initiative within Scottish Nuclear, his role in the formation and development of AmerGen are key roles that set him up for the role as CEO of Bruce Power. I would not call him the figure head of an entire industry - he no longer figures in the European nuclear industry - the world wide nuclear industry has a large number of other players of which Duncan is just one. WANO is more that the Atlanta Centre, CANDU is more that Bruce Power, Bruce Power is one of several major player in Ontario Generation. The Nuclear Company I work for is larger than Bruce Power and its CEO and Chairman are also major players in the European Nuclear indusrty (the CEO on both sides of the Atlantic) neither of whom have articles. It is my belief that this article was heavily skewed to one aspect of Duncan's career as published in a North American business journal. And for the record I have known Duncan for over 15 years - in Scottish Nuclear, British Energy and Bruce Power. --Stewart (talk) 14:04, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also see that your IP is allocated to Bruce Power. --Stewart (talk) 15:42, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability?[edit]

I've not checked the issue of copying from an article, if that's the case the article has to be a summary or precis of the article put in the editor's own words so that it's not plagiarism. More basically, it's by no means evident that the subject meets Wikipedia:Notability (people). The requirement for published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject does not appear to have been met. The awards cited are of questionable notability, so to meet the standard that the person has received a notable award or honor, independent coverage of the award would be appropriate. Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Primary criterion also gives guidance on suitable sources. WP:NOTADVERTISING for self-promotion or advertising companies. So, better sources are needed. . dave souza, talk 19:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I can't see how this meets Wikipedia:Notability (people). And it very much reads like an advert. •Jim62sch•dissera! 21:54, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He's head of a company that produces 25% of Ontario's electricity. Refurb of Bruce A is billed as Canada's largest infrastructure program. He was very informative and reassuring during the blackout in Ontario, perhaps more than OPG or Ontario gov personnel. Seems notable to me. And no, I am not connected to Bruce P, AECL or any other nuke company. Feldercarb (talk) 03:35, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
