Name confusion, and date of abolition[edit]

This article says that the constituency was called "Dunfermline Burghs" until 1974, even though the District of burghs article says that the term Burghs continued in use in the names of some constituencies until 1955. Neither article cites any sources; which (if any) of them is right? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:22, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boundaries of Parliamentary Constituencies 1885-1972, F. W. S. Craig, 1972, has Burghs in use until implementation of results of the Second Periodical Review (concluded 1969, but implemented 1974, two years after Craig published). It is possible however that Craig failed to record 1955 name changes where there were no boundary changes. Laurel Bush 15:22, 4 October 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Looking through Google Books lends credence to the 1974 date. There are several official publications from the late 1950s and early 1960s which use "Dunfermline Burghs" (the only one with a preview is [1], a Government publication from 1960), and nothing official after 1974. Fair enough! Kinda weird to retain the Burghs name when it ceased to be a District of burghs constituency, but it wouldn't be the first example I've seen of odd naming practices. Thanks for the research, and sorry for being a pedant :) --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
