Fair use rationale for Image:Durham logo DBS.jpg[edit]

Image:Durham logo DBS.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Misleading use of references[edit]

The statement "the top internationally known business school" in line 1 was deeply misleading. The eduniversal.com website allocates stars (which it calls "palmes") to business schools, and then uses these palmes to group the schools into four levels:

  • 5 Palmes: "UNIVERSAL, with major international influence" (7 UK business schools)
  • 4 Palmes: "TOP, internationally known" (15 UK business schools)
  • 3 Palmes: "EXCELLENT, nationally strong and/or with continental links" (26 UK business schools)
  • 2 Palmes: "GOOD, with regional influence" (2 UK business schools)

Durham Business School is in the 4 palmes group, so "top internationally known" is a factually correct extract from the cited reference but it gives a very inaccurate impression. The eduniversal.com site uses a peer ranking methodology (counting the number of Deans from a panel of 1000 business schools who would recommend this particular school). Durham Business School is ranked eighth in the "4 Palmes" group, and is overall fifteenth in the UK (UK ranking table 2008). There are at least 43 continental European schools with higher recommendation rates, so if eduniversal.com offered a consolidated view Durham would be ranked at best fifty-eighth in Europe and about 100th globally. Not bad, but nowhere near "top", and I'm concerned that the editor who made this claim (effectively a single-purpose account) is not being sufficiently careful to maintain a neutral point of view in this article. - Pointillist (talk) 13:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The editor has now removed this statement. When the article is more stable I will verify the other references. - Pointillist (talk) 17:01, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
