Factual accuracy[edit]

Someone who is extremely knowledgeable about the specific engine model numbers needs to verify this. I put the table together as best I could piece everything together from the sites I referenced and put in the See Also section, but a lot of data out there conflicts--specifically, the difference between the 16-710G3B and 16-710G3C engines and the T1 and T2 suffixes. I've also seen reference that the SD70MACs have a 16-710G3C-ES, 4000 HP engine, which contradicts what I've come up with in the table (namely that the G3Bs are 4000 HP and the G3Cs are 4300 HP). Needs an expert--maybe I'll tag the article with that template...

T1 and T2 refer to the EPA's emissions regulations. B and C are fuel economy engines, and I would assume that C has better fuel economy, but I am not sure.

I just saw another reference to the 16-710G3C-ES, 4000 HP engine used in the SD70MAC (but not the SD70M). It's in a 2003-produced DVD issued by Trains Magazine on motive power. Still not sure how that fits into the specs table. It also makes a reference to the initial engine used in the convertible SD90MACs as the 16-710G3-ES with 4,300 HP. cluth 20:37, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

B & C where ADVERTISED as 'Fuel Economy Engines', but ADVERTS are rarely factual. B typically have 200+ish BHP more over A, C gets an 200BHP above B by increasing the rpms to 950rpm. Table and Info Upgrades[edit]

I cant say Im a expert, but I do have access to some EMD publications which I used to upgrade the table.

Dont have Max RPM for the 710G3C series or the V12's of any series, I know they are differnt then the G3B's 900 RPM but unfortunately dont have that info handy.

Math Checking[edit]

Note at the line: The 710 model was introduced in 1985 and has a 1-inch (25 mm) longer stroke (now 11 in or 279 mm) than the 645 (9.0625 in or 230 mm bore). Comparing the longer stroke of the 710 to the bore of the 645 doesn't give a useful comparison of stroke length difference or bore difference, and if the bore dimensions of the 645 are actually the stroke dimensions mislabeled, the 710 has roughly a 2" longer stroke. Two or Four Stroke?[edit]

The article states that it is a two stroke engine, but the box states that it has four valves per cylinder. What? If it's some sort of unusual engine I think that needs to be explained. Chris.Bristol (talk) 16:54, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
