Location[edit]

East Spotswood is not the same as the community of Old Bridge. They each had a passenger and freight station on the United New Jersey Railroad and Canal Company system.[1] In order from Jamesburg, the stations were Helmetta, Outcalt, Spotswood, East Spotswood, and Old Bridge.[2] The borough of Spotswood lists East Spotswood Park, near Spotswood’s 1832 Camden & Amboy Railroad Memorial. The description of Old Bridge should be removed from the article.

GNIS coordinates[edit]

GNIS has two distinct locations listed for East Spotswood:

The first, on the South Amboy quadrangle map, is in Old Bridge Township. It is south of the community of Old Bridge in East Brunswick. This location is not along a railroad.

The second, on the New Brunswick quadrangle map, is in the borough of Spotswood, near Dora Avenue and Main Street, along the railroad. It is one and one-quarter miles from the former station in Spotswood, as noted by the New Jersey Geological Survey.

The first location appears to be a data entry error on the South Amboy quadrangle, the label incorrectly copied from the New Brunswick quadrangle. No other sources have been found to verify this location as East Spotswood.

The second location agrees with the several sources cited above.

The location for East Spotswood should use the New Brunswick quadrangle map coordinates, which are in Spotswood.
