East Turkistan vs Xinjiang[edit]

Is East Turkistan anywhere near WP:COMMONNAME for the region? Obviously it should be used for the “government in exile” itself, but it seems to be used a lot in this article to describe the region itself. Paragon Deku (talk) 19:07, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

They claim different areas. The map of the claimed land appears to encompass land beyond the XUAR's formal borders, so it wouldn't be quite correct to say that they claim just Xinjiang. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 23:37, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

“Recognition of China's atrocities as genocide” section[edit]

I seriously think this section needs to be heavily reworked and retitled to dial back exactly what we’re putting in wikivoice. The word “atrocity” is repeated (unquoted and unattributed) several times, even in sentences whose inline citations don’t use the word themselves. I’m not sure we even do this on pages of objectively historically recognized events one would call a genocide (it’s only used once on the page for the Holocaust) Paragon Deku (talk) 01:17, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removing multiple Routledge books on "Positions"[edit]

Multiple Routledge books have described what is in the "Positions" section, with one of saying that ETGE is one of, with exact words:

Uyghur groups advocating radical forms of ideological and armed struggle including terrorist activities.

These are both academic sources published by Routledge and an argument for removing the description given by multiple academic books requires serious reliable sources. — MarkH21talk 18:28, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding the claim of Furthermore, the data is from pre 2010, the books were published in 2010, 2013, and 2023. — MarkH21talk 18:59, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CentralAsiaEnthuist: I hope you realize, by the way, the difference between a "Turkish and Chinese" sources and two Routledge books that have authors who have Turkish-sounding and Chinese-sounding names. Or even two such books with authors who have Turkish or Chinese family backgrounds... That doesn't determine whether a source is reliable or unreliable. — MarkH21talk 00:39, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

References for letter to Congress[edit]

Regarding this edit, the material needs better sourcing than the YouTube link (see WP:RSPYT) and ANI (which is not particularly reliable for this kind of politics-related event) in order for it to be of due weight and inclusion-worthy. Everything I can find at the moment is either unreliable or is from the ETGE (e.g. press releases). — MarkH21talk 03:07, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
