I noticed the lack of such an article - and the request for one - but don't know enough about the technical aspects of this type of instrument to add much detail. Sojourner001 14:44, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm affraid that the drawing in this article is incorrect (or, at least its description is wrong). The first dispersive element in the echelle spectrograph should be echelle grating (*not* standard grating), and the second one should be cross-disperser (prism or standard grating), which separates overlapping high orders of spectrum.
