Episode list should stay[edit]

The episode list on EconTalk is not a directory.

The episodes are not loosely associated.
They are not genealogical or phonebook entries.
They are not a list of upcoming episodes or promotions.
They are not a sales catalog.

I thought the episode list was completely ridiculous and moved it to another page. The whole article looks like an advertisment by Roberts for his podcast, so I added a POV note to the Themes section. Sanpitch (talk) 06:29, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The list that I created, List of EconTalk episodes, is being considered for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of EconTalk episodes. One thing that I guess would be useful whether it is deleted or not is to list some notable episodes on the main Econtalk page. For example, the top episode from favorites could be listed. Should Paul Krugman's refusal be deleted from the intro?[edit]

Today I almost removed the following sentence from the end of the introductory summary paragraph: "Roberts has invited popular economics Nobel recipient and New York Times op-ed columnist Paul Krugman 'many times' but Krugman has not appeared on EconTalk." My reason for removing the sentence would have been that this sentence makes EconTalk sound more biased and shrill than it actually is. Reversing a saying that Roberts has repeated a number of times, the apparent concern of this Nobel prize winner that his ideas would not receive a fair hearing "is a bug, not a feature." Also, does this information really need to be in the intro? What about all of the other potential guests who have been invited but have not responded?

EconTalk has had a wide range of guests, and Roberts has treated them with civility. However, I have concluded that this sentence is a fair representation of the way Roberts has talked specifically about Krugman in the past. This is a shame; I wish that Roberts would pull his punches enough to get this one economist to have a discussion with him on EconTalk since Krugman has played such a significant role in the response of the U.S. and the world economies to the 2008 financial crisis and its aftermath. And, I suppose that leaving this sentence in the intro does give a fair idea of the libertarian leanings of Roberts and many of his guests.

I would urge any EconTalk listener who thinks the sentence about Krugman should be moved from the intro or deleted entirely to do so, and then give a well-reasoned rationale for the move or deletion here on the talk page.

Listing & Depicting Hayek & Smith Seems Inappropriate[edit]

I can understand why someone might list and show a picture of Hayek and Smith when discussing EconTalk more broadly but there is little about that decision that helps Wiki readers understand the podcast and much that might lead readers to misunderstand them.
