deleted entire section from Regions of Egypt[edit]

copied from Turnopoems Talk page: @Turnopoems: Again? Please do not delete entire sections of articles. Economics does apply.

The Regions article, which list Regions for Physical Planning Purposes is not the First-Level or Second Level etc. Regions is for Physical Planning - two different things). Talk about bureaucracy! So, if you were to add Economic regions here, where would it go? (Regions doesn't go here). It doesn't apply to this list below:

This article (again) is not about this: Subdivisions of Egypt

   First-level (governorate)
   Second-level (markaz, qism)
   Third-level (district, village)
   Fourth-level (sheyakha)
  • I think the write-up under the Administrative Regions section in Regions of Egypt belongs in the Governorates of Egypt article (which I notice you've been working on a lot), maybe in a new section called "history" or "decentralization of power over the years". I've been wanting to move that "write-up" for awhile to "Governorates of Egypt" but I didn't want to step on your toes. It kind of gives a history of the decentralization of power over the years. So what do you think? Do you want that info to go into the Governorates page (I plan to delete it from Regions page) or is not not useful?
  • You didn't answer, you deleted it. I guess you didn't want the section.
  • On aside, beautiful resource you added on Sharqia! Maybe just add to the column Feddan "roughly equal to an acre" or change it to "Acres"

@Level C: Alright, I'm going to go ahead and make some edits and you let me know what you think. I don't understand what the "economic picture" has to do with Egypt's regions, it's not relevant at all. I was thinking the article could be arranged as an outline of Egypt's subdivisions and their articles. The Arabic articles will be my main frame of reference in terms of organization. Let me know what you think! Turnopoems (talk) 14:53, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Economics IS relevant to this article! Please try to forget "subdivisions" This Regions of Egypt article is not about subdivisions. In fact I renamed the article.
Capital should not be in the table. I don't like the table format for this article. I removed it.
Not every page on Egypt needs a column on population. Please do not add a table to this page.
The economic picture IS related to this new article name Economic Regions of Egypt because the page is about Economic planning by regional units, Abdel Fata El Sisi mentioned "Regional units" in the sourced article. Please review. When projects are done, developmental projects, they are often done for a Regional Unit, building roads in villages, building infrastructure (projects by USAID are documented here for example by Region but this "Region" is different from what you're thinking.
You made a change also, that I had to undo to the Template "Politics of Egypt". I'm asking you to please READ and discuss changes before you make them.
Please don't make major changes (deletions) without discussing on article talkpage first.

Level C (talk) 18:55, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

I think this article should be merged with this article[edit]

This article is about the urban planning and economic conditions of Egypt's regional units. Greater_Cairo_Planning_Commission The Greater Cairo Planning Commission or GCPC was a planning body for Cairo, Egypt, which was created in 1965.[1] The commission was approved by a ministerial decree in 1974.[2]

It was superseded by the General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP) in 1981.[3][4]

Page renamed because it's caused days and days of confusion[edit]

Regions of Egypt causes a lot of confusion because the Arabic page uses Regions of Egypt to mean "Administrative Subdivisions". I would like to rename the English article to Economic Regions of Egypt because this article is about the urban planning and economic conditions of Egypt's regional units. Example of other country naming page Economic Regions of Russia Level C (talk) 19:37, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Arabic page on Regions means something different than the Regions English page[edit]

@Turnopoems:

Let's have the discussion here, not on your talkpage.

I'm not sure how, but I get the feeling, these pages should be disconnected because they are discussing apples (Administrative Divisions) and oranges (Economic Regional Units). These articles are not discussing the same thing.

How to fix this?

What is subdivisions missing (in your mind)? In my mind, after much research, Subdivisions of Egypt is not missing something called "Regions"... See statoids.com (for example)

The "regions" that you are probably referring to show up on the Governorates template. Level C (talk) 00:35, 3 November 2016 (UTC). I started a discussion over there on whether the template is correct but now I'm starting to realize that you'll probably just make changes without consensus or sourcing. I'm not sure why you're doing this.[reply]

for Africa Destubathon...[edit]

Started updating this page for Africa Destubathon but another editor began making changes on it as well. but I did the bulk of the work and have been at odds with the changes being made by @Turnopoems: which he doesn't summarize or discuss before making. I've done a lot of research before I made changes. He based his changes on the Arabic article which is linked to this one but is not EQUIVALENT in terms of its contents. Arabic and English wiki articles should be unlinked. They're not the same, apples and oranges.

I was not aware of this destubathon but as I clarified below, I don't intend to step on anyone's toes and I'm not interested in any prize. I will refrain from editing until the event is over but I will be active on the talk page. I also clarified on my talk page that the Arabic article linked to this one ISN'T the one I based my information on, as they are incorrectly linked. The correct Arabic article is found '. Populations and capitals[edit]

@Turnopoems: Regarding the table you created here, please hold off on the tables. They are very overwhelming. Secondly, not needed on this page.

  • You had converted my simple text into a table and added two columns: A table with populations and capitals. These Regions do not have capitals. The populations show elsewhere, for example on Governorates of Egypt.
  • I'd been working on this article for the Africa destubathon project. Are you familiar with it? Once another person starts editing the article, the first one can not claim it for a prize.
  • If I start updating an Egypt article for the African destubathon can you hold off until November 27th, when the contest is over? Level C (talk) 02:47, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Level C:I was not aware of that, I apologize for stepping on your toes in that case. If you are proficient in Arabic I recommend that you read this. This is the Local Government Act, it describes the role and context of these economic regions. I strongly believe that it is irrelevant to include anything about urban planning and general economic information that is NOT specific to the economic regions.
The subdivisions article is not missing anything, I clarified this on my talk page. Keep in mind that a subdivision isn't the same as an administrative division however. These economic regions are technically a subdivision, they're not an administrative division. It is better to keep these separated though GRANTED that this article isn't flooded with irrelevant information that is better suited in the "Economy of Egypt" article, in that case it would be better to avoid ambiguity. Turnopoems (talk) 20:02, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like you to notice that these articles were stubs and had not been worked on in awhile. So it's something I just recently started working on and I know the economic regions are not "administrative", the Subdivisions of Egypt article strictly speaks of administrative divisions.
I agree that it's better to only include economic information that is specific to each of the 7 economic regions in this article. This should be updated. Do you have any good English sources? I am not an Arabic-speaker. Level C (talk) 02:15, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Level C: This is not quite what I meant. By specific to the economic region I'm still not referring to the general state of the economy in those regions, but rather information that directly pertains to the economic region as a unit. Here are some example sources: [1], [2], [3].
Yes, you're right. I removed it.Level C (talk) 07:43, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

I think the map looks good now that it's been resized. It was too large. Level C (talk) 02:48, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Importance[edit]

"Top" importance? I don't think so. Will have to keep a lookout for what these regions / this government body actually does, meaning what functions does it really have "complete authority" and "control" over, what does it accomplish, what has it accomplished with sources? etc. Level C (talk) 00:48, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

Nobody comes to Wikipedia for a gallery of maps. It's not an atlas. That being said, why are all of these map pictures so large? Can somebody shrink them down and put them into their correct spots? The preview for the page just shows two pictures and no text. 75.6.197.115 (talk) 12:58, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
