NPOV[edit]

This article is severely lacking on the Ecuadorean perspective of this conflict, even going down to a Peruvian military commander "giving shoes" to Ecuadorean soldiers who lacked them. I'm putting an NPOV tag on this. Diego001 (talk) 11:15, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute? Battle?[edit]

I've named this article "territorial dispute of 1857-1860", because it was indeed a dispute, and the only military action was the Peruvian blockade and the temporary "occupation" of Guayaquil (the Peruvians actually occupied nearby haciendas). I don't believe this was actually a war; no shots were exchanged between Peru and any army over the matter, which was inflated by President Castilla in order to distract peruvians from his domestic issues. Thus, I believe that "dispute" is a better name for this incident, rather than "War of 1858" or "War of 1858-1860", etc. as it is usually referred to. Thoughts?
