Untitled[edit]

I notice on the guest credits of "Boston Legal" that Ed Begley, Jr. no longer uses the "Jr." as part of his name. His "official" website, though, still includes the Jr. It might be interesting to research and document this bit of trivia. Esjones 00:55, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He was lampooned well on The Simpsons. Riding in a car 'powered by his own sense of self-righteousness'. Dead-on.

Begley Jr has also appeared in a number of episodes of "Portlandia", playing various roles. Someone might want to make an entry in his "career" and "tv" sections, perhaps discovering the episodes he was in to list. Kentucky Derby jockey story[edit]

I moved the following from the article to here as such discussions belong on the talk page. I have no opinion formed about the assertions: "*Kentucky Derby item NOT TRUE. The '72 Derby 4th place horse was Introductivo, ridden by Robert Breen. In fact, there has never been a horse run in the Kentucky Derby named "Three-Legged Joe". Removed jockey story[edit]

The entry objected to above is almost certainly spurious. Here it is:

"Begley's environmentalism stemmed from a very young age, perhaps from his interest in horses. His grandfather owned a farm in Kentucky, known as Wild Acres, where he raised and trained race horses. Begley spent each summer of his childhood and adolescent years training to become a jockey, and if it had not been for an audition in Kentucky one summer for Cockfighter in 1971, Begley would have become a jockey for a living. In fact, in 1972, Begley raced in the Kentucky Derby on a horse named Three-Legged Joe. Incidentally, the horse did have four legs, but was named so for its oddly-colored hind leg that seemed to be almost transparent. Though Begley did not win the Derby, he placed 4th." At the very least, this paragraph is incorrect. There was no "Three-Legged Joe" in the 1972 Derby, and no Ed Begley, either. The fourth-place horse was Introductive, ridden by Robert Breen. See http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2007/derby_history/derby_charts/years/1972.html

Google doesn't turn up a "Three-Legged Joe" in any Kentucky Derby or for Ed Begley with "Wild Acres."

merge proposal[edit]

  • I don't see any reason why it can't be it's own article. Here are some national coverage it has recieved (NY Times [3]) (ABC News [4] (USA Today [5]). It is also been on blogs like autoblog. The show also features well known and notable celebrities such as Bill Nye, Ed Begley Jr (the host) Helen Hunt, Jay Leno and others. It may be on a niche network such as HGTV but just because a person hasn't heard of it doesn't mean it's notable. I'll admit the article is just a stub right now but it can be expanded but I think because of the coverage it is receiving and the people invovled with it that it is in fact notable. 911 Truth Activities[edit]

Why was RxStrangelove allowed to delete a sourced and linked insertion about Begley's 911 Truth activities, simply by stating that it was "four year old material." Meaning that Begley's chairing of the 911 event was four years ago? By that logic, you should immediately delete from the article everything Begley did before 2004, including his birth. On 6-25-09 I spoke to Ed Begley Jr specifically about his involvement with 9/11 Truth Movement. Ed Begley informed me that he is NOT involved in the 9/11 Truth Movement and does not subscribe to the government conspiracy theories which are common in the 9/11 Truth Movement. Ed Begley informed me that his involvement with the forum was exclusively out of concern for the air quality in the aftermath of the building collapsed. Who is this and what proof do we have that he talked to Begley personally? This statement is very fishy, since Begley chaired the 2004 911 Truth Event, and you do not chair a Truth event based on air quality concerns. The event was not an air quality event, it was a MIHOP event. Are we to believe Begley was deaf? Even supposing Begley has changed his mind, it is still true that he chaired the event. Changing his mind does not delete past events. In that case, the article should state that he chaired the event and has since changed his mind. What about his company, Begley's Best, which repackages the same formula based on baby shampoo as 20 different products? And they are priced to fit the lifestyle of the rich and famous. It should be replaced by the reliable one. Why would you keep a citation to 'Yabbering random person on the internet claimed something' when you could replace it with 'Actual reliable source that more than 25 people have heard of reported on something, reliably'? Let's take a poll, I believe we should keep both sources as the one removed links to a textual summary of the show and what happened so keeping both is not such a bad idea. the only time unreliable sources should be removed is when there is no way to back them up.
