Untitled[edit]

I was thinking of removing the Calvo campaign website because I feel it is outdated because Calvo and Ray have already won the election. I will leave it for 1 week and if no one objects, I will remove it. Thanks! Sprinkler21 (talk) 04:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)Sprinkler 21[reply]

Eddie Calvo is a U.S. citizen and is thus an "American." That means that he is an "American politician." People on Guam are not foreigners but "Americans." Guam is U.S. soil and not foreign soil so people born on Guam are U.S. citizens, and thus Americans, by birth. And Guamanians call themselves "Americans" and are offended when people in the mainland claim that they are not Americans. Guamanians are Americans just as Texans or Californians are Americans. So Eddie Calvo is not a foreigner. He is an American.

As for those that claim that Guamanians are not Americans because Guam is not a state but a territory, that is just nonsense. People born in the nation's sole district, the District of Columbia, are Americans even though D.C. is not a state. And all those people born in Hawaii and Alaska before those two places became states in 1959 -- they were territories before then -- are Americans. People born in Guam are Americans, not foreigners. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.142.208.12 (talk) 19:48, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Who's arguing about their citizenship? But being a U.S. citizen doesn't make one an "American politician". In fact, a U.S. citizen may be active in another country's politics. The fact remains that although not foreign, Guam has no constitutional, voting representation in United States politics, and in many respects, Guam (and other territories) are considered separately in a worldwide perspective from the United States. Therefore, it is misleading and POV to call all Guamanian politicians "American politicians". HkCaGu (talk) 23:46, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guam, like the other territories and the district, are represented in the U.S. Congress. So to say that Guam is not represented in Congress is incorrect. Madeleine Bordallo represents Guam in the House of Representatives. She her Wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_Bordallo

I said "voting representation". And I voted in three Guam general elections. I edit Guam-related articles. I know what Guam is and isn't. HkCaGu (talk) 04:26, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, HkCaGu. As a Guam resident, Guam voter and editor of Guam-related articles, I couldn't have said it better. I need to issue you some sort of Guam-Barnstar! Sprinkler21 (talk) 22:11, 27 August 2011 (UTC)Sprinkler21[reply]

If Eddie Calvo and other U.S. territorial governors were not governors in the United States, then why would they be members of the National Governors Association (http://www.nga.org). The biographies of the territorial governors, as well as the state governors, are listed at the National Governors Association website here: http://www.nga.org/cms/render/live/governors/bios . If Eddie Calvo and other territorial governors were not governors of the U.S., why would they be a member of such an association? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.142.209.32 (talk) 16:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
