Notability[edit]

She was one of the few women publishing in Shakespeare studies in the 1950s and 1960s.
She was a literary scholar and an actress at university and regional theaters!
She stands in the tradition of Margery Bailey, a line of charismatic women profs at a major university when that was rare.
