Proposal to merge Voting in Switzerland into this article[edit]

In response to the suggestion that we merge EiS into ViS: while Voting in Switzerland certainly has more content than Elections in Switzerland, the term elections umbrellas voting, among other topics. If any subtopic of this article should outgrow this article's scope, then we can consider splitting. For now, Voting in Switzerland would make a great addition to this article. May we consider a complete rewrite in incorporating ViS into EiS as opposed to simply pasting the ViS article as a subcategory? Adhall 06:30, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the content of the two pages, I feel that Voting in Switzerland should be the main page, since voting includes elections, but also other types of votes. ViS could contain all information about referendums, the double-majority people/cantons, the different modes of elections, etc. On the other hand, the article Elections in Switzerland, in its current form, looks like it could be moved to List of elections in Switzerland, where the main (federal ?) elections would be summarised. I agree with Schutz. I thinke we should make Voting in Switzerland the main page. Merge Elections in Switzerland into it and then have a stub in of Politics in Switzerland leading to Voting in Switzerland. Hdstubbs 18:27, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree too. As most of the votes held in Switzerland are NOT elections but initiatives and referendum, the page "Elections in Switzerland" cannot contain the page Voting in Switzerland. No one party often has a chance of gaining power alone, and parties must work with each other to form coalition governments: completely false. In Switzerland one party has NEVER a chance of gaining power alone, because executive are proportionally elected by people or legislatures.
