on importance[edit]

I'd like to acknowledge that while there is an "importance criteria" that is needed and sought for in the Wikipedia, the format and the relative credibility require, no, demand, that we build an extensive reference database. I trust the collective judgement of the wiki mindset and I rely on Wikipedia for a lot of reference material. From this point of view, it is my strong belief that a paragraph of information, available to be screened and edited for objectivity by the mass public is a necessity in a reality where there's a general lack of credible information in the average Google search. In particular, I have sought to bring a paragraph of useful information to the public eye, which is open to editing and expansion, but at least provides the beginning of an objective overview.

Currently, there are very few reference to people who are not currently active at a high level in the American media or in the cyberspace of information. Being Bulgarian, it is especially distressing for me to find very little information about Bulgarian academic and science figures. This is why I attempted to add a paragraph of information each about two women who are active in the academic world - Maria Todorova and Elka Todorova. The presence of these two women should in no way exclude the addition of other equally interesting individuals - in fact, it is with the hope that this will start a more extensive set of submissions that I enter this information.

I challenge anyone to deny the international importance of these two women, who have won incredible international academic awards (including Fulbright, John Simon Guggenheim, Woodrow Wilson fellowhips, etc), who have each published more than 50 monographs and articles and who are established names in their respective fields, in Bulgaria and abroad. I further challenge in a general way the "importance claim" set upon currently working individuals - I had believed the days in which we waited for a person to die to elevate their status were gone.

Let us use the amazing functionality of the wiki to provide a full view of our contemporary life, with its people, objects and ideas. Please do edit the information for objectivity, and edit it for up-to-date content. But let's decide once and for all - how many peer reviews are enough to merit a one-sentence mention in this paperless, free world! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mashuni (talkcontribs)
