Is there any consensus on the spelling of this man's family name? Nope, don't think there ever will

Spelling of name[edit]

Emil Richard Karl August Erlenmeyer was my grand-grand-grand-whatever (uncle?). A relative did some research on my ancestors and in his work, he says that there was a change in the spelling of the name. Emil Erlenmeyers grand-grandfather's name was still spelled Erlenmaier (1737-1803), while his grandfather's name - Georg Gottfried Erlenmeyer (1763-1820) - was spelled in the modern form. I do not know where the reasons for this change lie, could be some general linguistic change but I do not really know much about that. -- man-u (german wikipedia) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.176.245.12 (talk) 12:46, 7 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
