She's not the author?

This article claims that "Emmanuelle" wasn't really written by Marayat Rollet-Andriane, or at least not by herself alone. The relevant link is unfortunately dead. Does anyone have another reference? Maikel (talk) 14:34, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I have in the mean time seen the extra on the Laure-DVD where producer Ovidio Assonitis claims (convincingly, in my opinion) that Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andriane wrote ALL the Emmanuelle-stories, but published it under pseudonym because he (at least initially) was a UNESCO diplomat (presumably it was also a good marketing move to publish them under a woman's name). The claim that a diplomat wrote the novels is congruent with their intellectual-philosophical claim.

His wife Maryat later took on the "Emmanuelle Arsan" persona. According to Assonitis, she was a Thai actress, although "not really" an actress. In Laure, where she plays an extensive supporting role, you can see why, she's very pretty but she can't act all that well. Maikel (talk) 12:32, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why we should believe Assonitis, he worked only with Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andriane. He was not there when the novels were written. And if it's true, why did he wait so long to tell the "truth" ? I think it's just a trick to increase the sales of his dvd. And also, because people don't want to believe that a woman can write erotic novels. Assonitis isn't the only person who stated this version. Also Annie Belle, Al Cliver, Roberto D'Ettore Piazzoli and other ones. So, we HAVE other confirmations! Besides, Assonitis didn't wait "so long": in many italian film-magazines he told this truth since many years ago. Coguar76 19:46, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Arsan died in 2007?

IP-address 92.37.216.162 added the date 12.06.2007 as Emmanuell Arsan death. The only confirmation of that I could find was the IMDB-database. But IMDB also says she was born 1928, not as here stated 1932. Did she die? And when was she born? Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 10:05, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

IMDb is not a reliable source for important information such dates of birth and death as anyone can edit it. We need an obituary or news article. --Racklever (talk) 06:31, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

What does it really mean?

It says there "Arsan was born in Bangkok, Thailand, her father was a thai ambassador". The spelling of "thai" without a capital latter notwithstanding, what does this actually mean? Her father was a Thai ambassador to Thailand? That is utter nonsense.

Pseudonyms

Because of the hefty list of pseudonyms used by Arsan, I have taken the liberty to move most of them from the lead into the infobox. I have also reverted one edit which put them back into the lead.

MOS:LEADALT states that in "articles about people", "one or two" alternative names can appear in the first sentence of the lead. Furthermore, if long lists of alternative names clutter the lead, it is suggested that they are footnoted instead - here I have put them in the infobox. When did she die?

User:Jopsach added to the article that she died in 2005 in Chantelouve, France. Many not so reliable sources say she died in 2007. See source in section Illness and death. I think Lui magazine, cited here as source passes as a reliable one. It's French adult magazine, exactly the source you'd expect to publish obituaries of elusive authors of erotica. Remember, it's an in-print published magazine specializing on the topic. A blog entry by author Jean-Claude Grosse writing about that article explains the elusiveness of Arsan: "The information on the end of her illness and her death are to me without a doubt completely verified because the journalist here [Clovis Goux of Lui] knew her."[1] I say the source is a reliable one, and there is a reason why it's one of the few available ones giving out that information. The Lui article says she died in June 2005. It does not mention the specific date June 12 however (at least I don't see it in the article), I don't know where that came from. --Rosenzweig (talk) 07:21, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
