A pretty picture, but...[edit]

Well, that's lovely, but not exactly true: describes what happens during arousal from sleep

More likely the brain is so busy (during sleep) that it has to put the rest of the body off-line one third of the time in order to get all its work done.  :) --Hordaland (talk) 21:50, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have a point. I've added a footnote in hopes of not misleading anybody. Looie496 (talk) 22:29, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nicely done, thanks. I'm sure that not everyone is aware of the great strides in sleep (and brain) research the last 5-6 decades. I spent summer vacation writing Sleep medicine (now at Peer review) and would like to tackle (history of) Sleep research some day, though I'm probably in over my head. Perhaps I can call on you for help after your present big project winds down? --Hordaland (talk) 10:14, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not actually that strong on the history of sleep research, but I'm pretty well up on current understanding of what happens in the brain during sleep, and will certainly pitch in if that aspect comes into play. Looie496 (talk) 17:13, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
