"Zionist organization"[edit]

By what stretch of anyone's imagination is Engage a "Zionist organization" or part of "Zionism in the UK"? Is it funded or connected to any known openly Zionist organizations either in Britain or that are official organs of the Israeli government? I have removed the clearly contentious Category:Zionism in the United Kingdom from the article until this can be cleared up. Thanks. IZAK 06:14, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Jayjg (talk) 20:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The category "Israel and Zionism" was originally put on the article by Nagle durings its creation here [1]. The category Zionism ended up on this article because of a bot replacing the CFD'ed category "Israel and Zionism" in this edit [2]. I changed the category from "Zionism" to "Zionism in the United Kingdom" in this edit [3]. It may be better to put on the categories "Anti-Zionism" and "Anti-Semitism" since its mission is related to fighting anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. --Deodar 00:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Engage is a zionist organisation. It states on its website that zionism is merely Jewish nationalism and goes on to defend Zionism in those terms. 90.192.161.11 00:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am assuming it is Zionist in the sense that it supports the continued existence of Israel as the Jewish nation state. But unfortunately this simple ideological stance, when given the label "Zionist", becomes seen as something rather different and sometimes even sinister (exactly the kind of confusion and bias that Engage are attempting to correct). As such it would probably not be good to include the label Zionist here, so as to avoid such unfortunate confusion. --129.11.12.201 (talk) 12:23, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
