Couple of points on the plot (spoilers)[edit]

Although I can see Wigram pretending to hunt for Claire, to preserve her secret, and even keeping her "dead" if she was no longer useful, I don't see why he lied to Tom about the importance of Tom in tracing the traitor.

Though - Leveret is Wigram's right hand man in the latter part of the novel - could Wigram have been involved in bringing Tom back to Bletchley ? -- Beardo 05:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error in the plot outline[edit]

>>>> Confronted with the forms Claire reacts in an emotionally wounded manner, which also signals the end of Jericho's romance with her. <<<<

Not so. The end of the romance comes when Claire finds the cheque that Jericho received from Churchill (for cracking Enigma), and he refuses to tell her why he has it (because of the Official Secrets Act). Jericho doesn't find the hidden signals until later, after he has returned from his recovery in Cambridge and Claire has already disappeared. Expansion[edit]

I'm expanding the article, starting with a plot summary, hopefully avoiding the pitfalls of an earlier version. To do: more on the book being turned into a film, and the differences between the two; expand critical response, any awards won; and number of copies sold, etc. —BillC talk 07:56, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
