Google maps image[edit]

I think this link shows how flares in the Niger Delta can be seen from space. Can someone confirm this? It might be cool to include such an image in the article, or at least a link to one:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=niger+delta&sll=3.57373,8.247986&sspn=1.885889,2.268677&ie=UTF8&ll=4.758467,7.989807&spn=0.941557,1.134338&t=h&z=10&om=1

Do you mean the white fluffy things? I think those are clouds. They try to avoid them, of course, but sometimes it's not possible, or not worth buying new images. Thomas Kluyver (talk) 00:11, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gas flaring, POV[edit]

I tagged this section as being POV (Point of View, i.e. not neutral). If you're angrily reading this, let me explain that I'm not trying to judge whether or not it's correct, just that it's not written in a suitable way for an encyclopaedia. Phrases like "As a result, little is done by the oil companies" are definitely in need of some sort of back up--preferably statistics from reliable sources. In that specific case (please consider this as an example, not a particular argument), a source from Shell [1] says that they have "invested $3 billion" and "reduced associated gas flaring by more than 30%". If you want to dispute that, you need (up to date) evidence. As for phrases like "However, this statistic is accepted by few."... I hope you can see why this isn't neutral. Leave it out, and just give the specific claims and counterclaims that have been made. Even that is topped, however, by the final sentence: "Shell as a corporation has not publicly admitted fault nor made amends to the broader world community for its perpetration of these atrocities and its executives continue to enjoy extremely high salaries and luxurious lifestyles around the world." That was so unencyclopaedic that I've just got rid of it. If you believe it belongs in the article, please discuss it here. Thomas Kluyver (talk) 23:59, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The section contained POV language and I tried to remedy this and removed the POV tag; some citation requests were placed. Ekem (talk) 14:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:
