Erehwon Mountain Outfitter - No entry[edit]

I'm surprised there's no entry for Erehwon Mountain Outfitter - for many years (1972 - 2018) they were a major seller of outdoor supplies.

"Camping World announced today its plan to purchase Erehwon Mountain Outfitter, an iconic 45-year old specialty outdoor retailer with locations in Glendale, Wisconsin, and three in the Chicago area."

Putting this stuff here so sources will be available for making an entry later.

Erehwon was founded in 1972 by Rudi Mayer (and Marty Stilling, Mayer owns the store now) and sells gear for all types of outdoor activities, including snow sports, climbing, camping, hiking, and paddlesports. The store considers themselves “Midwest’s number one spot for outdoor gear.”

Company Overview
Samuel Butler’s book “Journey to Erewhon” inspired the name, but it was nature and their admiration of the outdoors that encouraged a group of outdoor enthusiasts’ to create the first Erehwon store. Founded in 1972, "Erehwon Mountain Supply" began its humble beginnings in an 800 square foot store on Devon Avenue on Chicago's North Side. Our store was created for the sole purpose of providing passionate outdoor enthusiasts with only the best quality gear and expertise. Over 40 years and 4 stores later, we continue to hold true to our original mission.

LFirst designed for outdoor fanatics, over time Erehwon is still your local, friendly outdoor lifestyle store. We sell the best brands in the world and base our selection of products on what we would recommend to our own family and friends. Whether you're hiking the Appalachian Trail, skiing in Jackson Hole, kayaking down Chicago River, or taking a leisurely bike ride through the forest preserve – we have what you need. Whenever you have activity on the brain, keep Erehwon in mind.

Erehwon was apparently purchased by Camping World in early 2018. In October of 2018, it was announced that Erehwon would become part of Uncle Dan's.

Big news! Your local Erehwon stores are taking on the identity of our sister store, Uncle Dan’s. By unifying under the Uncle Dan’s name, we will continue to focus on providing the best possible shopping experience for each of our wonderful communities.

Apparently, Rudy Mayer did not approve of this move.

The information could also be added in the Influence and legacy section of Erewhon. Ileanadu (talk) 00:17, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The photo I included was deleted, but it was basically a screenshot of this FB post and the comment by Rudy Mayer to that post. Unfortunately, no one has responded to my suggestion that there should be an additional entry on this disambiguation page. I have noticed that disambiguation entries don't always link to an article. Is 'Erewhon' a pun on 'Nowhere'. If so, should it be mentioned somewhere? Saccerzd (talk) 22:42, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
