removal of the final pages[edit]

"The Daily Telegraph speculated about the broader meaning behind his removal of the final pages:"

Pure speculation on my part: to get people into libraries and book stores? --Wordreader (talk) 19:19, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I found this on the Doeringer website http://www.ericdoeringer.com/FreeBooks.html "Free Books: Mixed Media, Dimensions Variable, 2008": Doeringer states that "before placing the books on the street I removed the last few pages from each novel, destroying the books' functionality but transforming them into works of art (I also wrote my name in the front of each book, as a type of signature)."
I see that he created this article himself, but nevertheless, I'm glad to have read about him as he's an interesting artist: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eric_Doeringer&action=history ; http://toolserver.org/~daniel/WikiSense/Contributors.php?wikilang=en&wikifam=.wikipedia.org&grouped=on&page=Eric_Doeringer. --68.197.49.1 (talk) 00:03, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry - I didn't realize that I got unlogged before added the above comment. --Wordreader (talk) 00:06, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the answer to why he removed the books' final pages. I have added this information to the article. When Edoeringer (talk · contribs) created the page in his userspace, it was in this state. I happened upon it when it was nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Stale user autobiographies. He had such an intriguing story that I decided to expand the page and move it to the mainspace. Cunard (talk) 00:56, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good catch - I'm glad you rescued this article. As you say, he's very interesting and has an uncanny ability to sniff out cultural inflations that need to be pricked a little. (Doeringer garden gnome! Ha! Ha! Ha!) Wordreader (talk) 00:00, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Missing word.[edit]

In the Art in Odd Places section, I see this sentence. Something is missing, but I don't want to insert anything that could change the meaning you had in mind:

"He noted that a reader could become annoyed [ at , by , due to , from , given , in spite of , over , with ] his alterations instead of realizing their artistic worth."

News.[edit]

Hello, Cunard, if you're still there. I don't know why I find Doeringer so interesting; it's probably his brazen energy and the uncertainty of his students over whether he will be in class in the morning or in jail for inserting contraband into his "Contraband" series of sealed red bottles. I got interested in reading about him tonight and complied this list. Aside from discovering that he was born in Cambridge MA, there's no other data about his non-art world life. I didn't find out if he lives with other humans or not or even any representatives of the animal kingdom. I have no idea who his parents might be (though he mentioned in an interview that he DID have a mother, so there's that). B^)

  • This "Studio Visit" site gives his birth place as Cambridge MA and lists some exhibitions, but no dates. In his artist stament, he mentions exploring the difference between Sol LeWitt wall draftings and his own. I saw a large LeWitt exhibition some years ago at DIA, Beacon, NY, and if he could mimic that level of draftsmenship, all power to him. Artists are allowed to create their own experience, so Doeringer must have created the info on the page himself. http://momaps1.org/studio-visit/artist/eric-doeringer

Thank you - I hope you are well, Wordreader (talk) 05:00, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
