The question of nationality is sensitive and quite complicated in this case, to my best knowledge and according to all sources available I am listing the artist who was born a citizen of the Austro-Hungarian empire as a (naturalized in May 1915) German of Italian (father's ethnicity) and Austrian (artist's nationality at birth, artist's mother's nationality and ethnicity, artist's father's citizenship) descent. Apparently the artist's father was an ethnic Italian born in Istria, then part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and was therefore an Austrian citizen. It remains unclear to me whether or not the artist ever held Italian citizenship. Pchaas (talk) 13:13, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
