updated for start of 2011-12[edit]

updated it to match what was on the ERC website. According to the rankings there, Viadana and Aironi are being kept separate, hence why Viadana still appear on the list despite not existing! Tastyniall (talk) 09:38, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tied teams[edit]

Can someone point me to the ERC criteria used to separate teams that are tied on points, please? The article says

  1. Most recent participation in the Heineken Cup, counting back season-by-season until the teams are separated.
  2. Points earned in the most recent season, counting back season-by-season until the teams are separated.

So, I have just swopped Cardiff and Quins positions (both on 15 points) as Quins did not particpate in HC in 2010/11, but Cardiff did. Then I realised that the official ERC rankings here show Quins then Cardiff. So, either the criteria stated in the article is wrong, or ERC are wrong (entirely possible!). I have contacted ERC via their feedback page:
I have a question on the ERC Rankings. This page http://www.ercrugby.com/eng/ranking.php shows Cardiff and Harlequins both on 15 points and ranks Harlequins above Cardiff. My understanding was that when teams are tied on points, the team with the most recent Heineken Cup particpation ranked higher. Both teams particpated in 2012/13 and 2011/12, but Harlequins did not in 2010/11 whereas Cardiff did.
I assume that I must be mistaken about the crteria used to separate tied teams. Can you point me to the Ranking criteria, please.
and received the following response:
Quins are ranked higher because it looks at the most recent first. So based on 2012/13 season both clubs were in the Heineken and Quins earned 5 v 2 for Cardiff. The previous seasons only come into play if the most recent season doesn’t separate the clubs.
I will put this onto the article page. Hamish59 (talk) 13:52, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I know the rankings are out of date anyway, but this page has been vandalised. Lowercase spelling of club names, "saracens" second from bottom (and link taking you to Lusitanos)... LeverageSerious (talk) 15:53, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
