Why is this still notable?[edit]

Does anybody still care, in 2015, that somebody declared 2001 to be the "Year of European Languages"? If so—and I'm quite willing to believe it—this article should say why. Did the declaration accomplish anything? Or was it just another symbolic declaration that made everybody feel good for a year and was then forgotten? Did it "draw attention to Europe's cultural richness" and "support closer collaboration among people, schools, and institutions"? If so, with what results? Did such closer collaboration materialize? To what end? If there aren't substantive, affirmative answers to these questions, the article should be deleted. J. D. Crutchfield | Talk 18:26, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
