New info and name[edit]

An editor added some new info and moved/renamed this article. I moved it back to the NRHP name for the place, pending some actual discussion and sourced info. Currently the only source of name for the place in the article is the NRIS database reference. The photo does show "Middlesex College" and, at one side, a Federal Building label, which does strongly suggest it is no longer a post office. Clearly there is some more info which can be added. But please, only with sources. And, what evidence is there that the building is actually named anything differently than given in the NRHP's NRIS database? --doncram (talk) 03:40, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a 2006 article from the Lowell Sun, found on the UMass Lowell website, explaining that the Federal Building on the Middlesex Community College campus was renamed the F. It is also mentioned in "Lowell: the Mill City" by the Lowell Historical Society (see Google Books for an excerpt)

The photo shows the name on one wing of the building. Does the name apply to that wing. Why should we think the entire building gets the F. Bradford Morse name. Isn't it possible that part of the building is used for some Federal government offices' purposes, and the rest of the building is something else, part of Middlesex Community college. The label on one side suggests that, and I believe that Middlesex Community College would not be a Federal program. So, while it is fine to mention part of the building is now renamed, and to redirect from that name to here, the overall building may best be described as named before. I don't know; i am asking for more information, in the face of aggressive moves and editing and opinions by one editor with rather strong pre-determined opinions about many placenames all at once. --doncram (talk) 20:15, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We have a reliable source saying that the building was renamed the F. Bradford Morse Federal Building. None of the sources that I have seen suggest that just one wing of the building was renamed. As I was looking into the history of the building, it is clear that MCC purchased the entire building from the Federal Gov't for $1. The whole building had been renamed to honor F. Bradford Morse. So, even though it is completely owned by MCC, and the MCC website refers to it as the'historic Federal Building', I believe the article is correctly named, even if the 'federal building' designation is historic only. BTW, my expansion was parly driven by the 50K challenge, and hopefully to elevate this article past 'stub'. Bill McKenna (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
