Calculations[edit]

Actually, they calculate for an 8-year period. I manage to have a correct computations for some but not all teams. --Howard the Duck 12:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

24.30.60.133 <= great job...way to vandalize the article (replacing USA with Mexico, very funny)Jxp (talk) 02:33, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenia[edit]

Diamond Ball[edit]

The Diamond Ball has no connection with these rankings. I say it is an exhibition because, on the Men's side, the United States is not even allowed to participate. Now, there are many good teams in the world, but if one of the top teams in the world isn't even allowed to participate, that is not any kind of championship-level contest. It's an exhibition in order to create an opportunity to sell tickets and promote the game of basketball. It is completely unconnected with any systematic effort at international competitions designed to identify the best national basketball programs. It has no business being mentioned in this article alongside the Olympics and World Championships, which are legitimate championship events. I mean, even this article from FIBA http://www.haining2008.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/08/diamBall/wom/news/lateNews/p/newsid/27581/FE_news_lateNews_arti.html says of the Diamond Ball for Women final between USA and Australia "[t]he game that really matters won’t be until August 23, though – the gold medal clash at the Olympics." Even FIBA says that the Diamond Ball doesn't matter! MrArticleOne (talk) 17:24, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't even think the Diamond Ball is included in this article? –Howard the Duck 03:48, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ultracanella keeps tacking it on the list of rankings; a "DB" along with the "O" and "W" for the Olympic/World Champions. MrArticleOne (talk) 03:52, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just revert and warn him/her. If it reaches the 4th level warning the sysops will take care of it. –Howard the Duck 03:54, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got a bit angry/snippy because I was told I should "[i]nform [my]self before editing, please." So I wanted to make it clear on the talk page why I was, in fact, sufficiently informed. I know, shouldn't let that get the best of me. MrArticleOne (talk) 05:59, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to apologize MrArticleOne. I thought that Diamond Ball records were included on this ranking because the tournament IS OFFICIAL because it´s organised by FIBA [1] [2] but then, I saw the FIBAS´source that explains clearly how this ranking is made and it´s clear that it counts only Olympics, World Cup, Regional Championships (Fiba Americas, Eurobasket, etc.) and youth tournaments (U19 and U21). I´m sorry if I disturbed. It won´t happend again. --Ultracanalla (talk) 22:32, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good to have it straightened out. No hard feelings. Many tournaments are "official" in that they are organized by FIBA, but they are either exhibitions designed to promote the game, or subsidiary events (like the South American championships), which don't count in the rankings and are only used to determine which teams will play in a main zonal championship (e.g., which South American teams will play in the FIBA Americas Championship). MrArticleOne (talk) 22:37, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New rankings[edit]

How do we have these new rankings after the 2010 World Championship? When I go to the FIBA website, it's still rankings as of EuroBasket 2009. MrArticleOne (talk) 14:24, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the correct ranking points[edit]

Currently unranked teams[edit]

I have reverted the removal of the list of currently unranked teams as they are in contention for points and FIBA members even if they currently don't have any points. I would be okay with the removal if there is a consensus to remove them although I would like to note that I could not easily find a list of countries that are FIBA members so the list helps server that purpose.

I also note that the table on the FIBA page has 32 countries listed compared to 20 here which is the wrong way around if this is the "more information" page. Gusfriend (talk) 02:23, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is trivia and should not be included. Other examples of rankings that don't include non-ranked teams: [3] and [4] amongst others. The ranking page itself does not list the unranked teams, and therefore this would be considered WP:OR. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:48, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am okay with it being removed based on a community consensus once the discussion has taken place. I would also note that after your WP:BOLD was reverted you should not repeat your change without first gaining consensus as you are the one seeking to change from the previously established state. The discussion is about if something in the article should be removed rather than if it should be added. Gusfriend (talk) 02:57, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have created a formal RfC to allow for discussion to proceed and will re-add the content so that people are aware of the text under discussion. Gusfriend (talk) 03:03, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

RfC - removal of section "Currently unranked teams"[edit]

The section titled "Currently unranked teams" on this page should be removed.

I have added it back to the page whilst the RfC is being undertaken so that people can see the content proposed for removal. Gusfriend (talk) 03:02, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Pinged by bot, uninvolved previously. I'm rather against the more volatile (that is, regularly changing) elements of the encyclopedia to begin with, so the fewer we have, the better; as presented this section relies entirely on logical inferences based on what is not already in the ranked list above. I also don't find it particularly necessary because if someone wants to find out if such-and-such team is on there, it's easy enough for them to do so independently. We don't spoonfeed literally every bit of information to the reader; they are free to make their own inferences as long as we don't post them here. • Support, I do not see the point in listing countries with zero points. --Seggallion (talk) 15:02, 21 May 2022 (UTC) sock puppet of banned user[reply]
THis has been open for longer than a week and there has been no opposition to removing the list, so I think its fair to close this discussion. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 15:50, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
