"Faux Namti"[edit]

Is the river the "Faux Namti"? If so, why is it "faux", false? What is the "real" Namti?--Wetman (talk) 01:13, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The river under the bridge is now known as the Sicha River (四岔河), which is a tributary of the Nanxi (南溪河) River, which was called Namti, Nam-Ti or Nami-ti by the French. As far as I can tell, "Faux Namti" is simply the name given to the Sicha River since it didn't really have a name back then, but what they knew is that it was connected to the Nanxi (Namti). Or maybe they thought that the Sicha looked a lot like the Nanxi, in which case "faux" would be used in an "imitation" sense. In any case, "Faux Namti" (and variations) is the name that seemed to be most commonly used for the bridge around the time most of the literature about it was published, so I used it for the title. --dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 15:08, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Dragfyre is correct. It should have been more appropriately called something like "Sub-Namti Bridge" or "Hypo-Namti Bridge", which refers to "the bridge of the tributary of the Namti River".
