Name[edit]

This article was recently moved from Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland to Federal Court of Switzerland. While this is indeed the literal translation of the official DE/FR/IT name, it is not the name used by the federal authorities themselves. The official translation of the Constitution, [1], and the administration's terminology database, [2], all use "Federal Supreme Court". Without objection, I'll move the article back.  Sandstein  18:15, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There being no objection, I'm moving it back.  Sandstein  20:33, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Federal Supreme Cort of Switzerland ist just wrong. --Sstoffel (talk) 20:59, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but we don't use what's "right", we use what the relevant sources use.  Sandstein  21:01, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is no official translation of the federal Constitution. --Île flottante (talk) 22:49, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is, at http://www.admin.ch/ch/e/rs/101/a188.html. I'ts not authoritative, but it's official.  Sandstein  23:12, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is irrelevant how the administration fédérale seeks to name the court. The constitution says that the official languages of the Swiss Confederation are French, Italian, and German. Three constitutional references outweigh the way the administration fédérale seeks to call something. English is not an official language of the Swiss Confederation. --Île flottante (talk) 21:27, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, but we have to pick an English name for the article, since we can't use all of the French, Italian, and German names as the article title. So we have to use an English translation of the French, Italian, and German official name. And I suppose the most obvious translation is that used by the federal government itself, including in official publications as in [3]. Moreover, what's relevant is common English usage, per WP:NAME. With 24,000 Google hits, "Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland" is a bit more widely used than "Federal Court of Switzerland".  Sandstein  22:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
