How can you say that Fed2 isn't a MUD? Alan Lenton was one of the people who maintained MUD1 on CompuNet (his persona name was Bella) - of course it's a MUD!

Agreed. Anyone who played MUDs at the time wouldn't have seen much of a difference with Federation, aside from perhaps the setting not being sword & sorcery / fantasy. There are some other inaccuracies here too, because when I played the GEnie version it was called Federation II, which was more than a decade before the re-release 2003 internet version as mentioned here (not to mention, wasn't the migration of the game to the Internet in 1997?).

I'd say this needs some cleanup and possibly a rewritten merger with the other Federation entry (and redirect both names to the same source). I'm no Wikipedia expert, I'm not sure what the procedure would be to do that, anyone want to take it on?

The article says that Federation was launched in 1988 and Federation II was launched in 2003. There never was a Federation, though - it was always called Federation II.

This article needs a re-write as parts of it really don't make sense. Federation II didn't begin until 2004, yet parts of the article refer to FedII prior to that point. "The game was originally launched in 2003" is factually incorrect. If you want to keep the article as just FedII stuff, it shouldn't begin prior to 2004. If the article is supposed to be about *all* versions of Fed, then the title (and name references) should be changed to not be exclusive to FedII. For example, "Computer Gaming World in 1992 praised the social aspects of Federation II" is not correct as FedII didn't exist in 1992 and it was actually GEnie Fed at that time. So, hive mind, what direction should this go? Revise the article to be just Federation II, or revise it to be inclusive of all versions of Fed? I'm willing to re-work it in either manner, but I don't want to waste time doing it one way if it'll just be reverted back. Highway198 (talk) 01:06, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I should clarify my comment to specify that Federation II *as it is known now* didn't exist prior to 2004. Although it was referred to as "Federation II" in a past format, that (GEnie) Federation II and the more recent Federation II had a pretty large period of time between the two that are crucial when discussing the history of the game, and have many different elements of gameplay.
