Globalize[edit]

This entry needs a great deal of work. Currently it focuses only on fellahin in Egypt, although the word refers to peasants throughout the Arabic-speaking world. Not a lot is known about the fellah people (Egyptian included). It's especially hard to fill out an entire article about the fellah when most people don't know anything or the only information known is outdated (see Trudy Rubin's 1975 article, Talking to the Fellahin, http://www.aliciapatterson.org/APF001974/Rubin/Rubin06/Rubin06.html)--Behrensk (talk) 02:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have attempted to remove what was, indeed, a very strange article. the term was widely used across the Arabic-speaking Ottoman Empire in quite a straightforward way. It meant farmer, villager, or peasant. i.e., not Bedouin and not upper-class, and not urban. I have kept the Egyptian material as it was, but in an historical use section.
