  • Was O'Connor responsible for publishing English language copies of the Declaration of Irish Independence? [1]
  • Minor document appears present at UK National Archives [2] ... but looks underwhelming and appears to be printed sheet not photograph. [3].
Hi.
RE: Declaration. While O'Connor did publish English language copies of the Declaration of Irish Independence, whether he was solely responsible or "officially" engaged to do so is difficult to confirm. (Lots of publishers would have reproduced those publications. Officially, unofficially and otherwise.) Whether and how to make such a statement would likely require some thought and discussion. And, ideally, non-primary sources.
RE: Other records. While I've just made "a bit of a deal" about the issues with primary sources, here are a few: (Note: may have to jump through some "not a robot / I promise not to do I dunno what" hoops to access.)
  1. Jan 1918 - Marriage record of Fergus O'Connor (44 Eccles Street, Dublin; Lithographer; son of Thomas O'Connor; RIC) and Maudie Fitzgerald (Bandon, Cork) (Has to be our man; With that address, parentage and job, cannot be anyone else.)
  2. Aug 1952 - Death record of Fergus O'Connor (Publisher; relative of J. Fitzgerald; Sister-in-law; Cork) (Potentially could be someone else, DOB doesn't fully align with census records.)
  3. Aug 1952 - Headstone of Fergus O'Connor in Castlelands Graveyard, Kinsale, Cork; Alongside father Thomas O'Connor and (later) wife Maudie Fitzgerald (Which ties the above two together. And largely confirms that the man in record #2 is the same man as in #1 above; But requires SYNTH and OR to arrive at that conclusion...)
I offer these only for information. Not to use in any article. As least some OR/SYNTH is required. In the meantime I'm looking to see where and why I was so certain of 1952 in the first place.

FYI. I don't know if it was why I was so certain of a date-of-death of 12 August 1952, but O'Connor's military pension record (Bureau of Military History / Archives, pages 36, 37 & 38) confirm this as his date of death. Guliolopez (talk) 19:21, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
