Overall, this is an excellent page with clear language and information. Our biggest comment is that the content of the page as it stands could include more detail and framing. For example: In the background section, we know that a concern regards the use of unbiased language. Consider adding (and citing) information brought to light from the investigations of the Ferguson Police Department that illuminate the history of race relations and police brutality. Also consider adding specifics when you discuss the ”disputed details” of Brown’s death. You could add details about the protests/acts of solidarity globally as well. Under the purpose section we thought you could add a portion that explores the rise of social media/hashtags on activism and advocacy more generally. The explicit link to educational content and tools is a powerful point here, and you could potentially flush that piece out a bit more. Perhaps there would be opportunities here to link some additional content (i.e. Twitter, Black Lives Matter, etc.). The language is eloquent, and the citations are clear and helpful.

-One small note: consider rephrasing the sentence “Not just collegiate professors…” to “College professors, high school teachers, early education specialists, guidance counselors and middle-school instructors all wanted ideas…”

The Applications section is great. Perhaps you could consider changing the title to something like “Harnessing Successes” or “Beyond the Hashtag.” Great work. AirBritt (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:08, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Overall, this is a well thought out page. Great work. My only suggestions to consider is perhaps you would want to add in your background section on the investigation of the Furguson police department and also what happened to the police officer after the incident. This can play an important role on the history of race relations and police brutality and how it continues to be an issue today. Good job. beliab — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:4:3880:109:2465:BB20:532D:E61C (talk) 03:31, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review 1 Response[edit]

Thank you for this feedback it was very helpful. We agree that the Background section should be elaborated on especially in light of recent events. We've now edited that section to further discuss "disputed details" as well as the acquittal of Darren Wilson and the DOJ's recent report.

We also think it is beneficial to include information about social media/hashtag activism. I'm wondering if this should be in the Background section, some how tied into the events of Ferguson or should it be under the Purpose? We are still considering where to put this information, but appreciate suggesting the need for more information on hashtag activism (which could probably be a page of its own).

Lastly, we have decided to keep the Application section titled as is, but would like to include more information and more applications in the future.

Again thank you for taking the time to give feedback. - Nikki and Loren SSWUM15 (talk) 23:06, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
