2009[edit]

This article seems to have a lot of over-linking. Terms should be linked only the first time they are used. The author also seems to have piped every link, regardless of whether piping was necessary. Why COI?[edit]

See this diff where I added the tag, and before I removed the marketing slides from IMC Networks (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Wow, that's some fairly obnoxious editing indeed. I quickly scanned the text and it seemed pretty intert but given the history it could well be tweaked in favour of these products. It may be a good idea to get an expert to take a look at this with a view to resolving any residual issues and removing the {{COI}} tag. Fiber Media Converter[edit]

I have spent weeks researching the material for this project. There is no advertising or promotional material contained within. This is a very informative and educational article written from an unbiased point of view. I would like all of my citations put back and I would like the image of the media converter put back on the site. This was the first U.S. company to develop and manufacture these types of devices. Therefore, they are historically significant when referring to this topic. If the application diagrams were too "promotional" in nature, I can contact the company to have them edited to suit the Wikipedia terms. It is important to show how these devices are used in a real-life network scenario. And finally, why would the article require "copy-editing for grammar, style, cohesion, tone or spelling"? Probably you should start by reviewing WP:COI and WP:SPA and explain here how you came to have the account name "IMC Networks" and wrote an article illustrated entirely by marketing slides from IMC Networks. Then, I would advise you get some wikipedia editing experience on topics in which you have no sign of coi, and learn how the process works. In the mean time, if you have specific suggestions for how to improve this article, post them here on the talk page and let other editors decide how to implement them. Dick - First of all, I'm a hands-on learner. Therefore, creating this article IS my experience. I've read the WP:COI and the WP:SPA. I made changes to the article that were requested. I'm a freelance marketer doing everything I can to make ends meet right now. I did some editing work for the company referenced in the article. That is reason all of the images and applications are from the same company. After all, they were the first U.S. company to manufacture and distribute these devices. Should they not get a little recognition?? In my search for information on media converters, I came to Wikipedia looking for information. I didn't find an article, so I took it upon myself to write one. I created the username on a whim. My mistake. I didn't realize I'd have to analyze every keystroke I made when adding educational content to a FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA. You have my suggestions for the article, do with them what you wish.

Marketing rather than an encyclopedia article[edit]

The tone of this article is like a brochure or white paper from an equipment vendor. Take a look at these phrases:

"We will discuss the benefits"

"unparalleled flexibility"

"leveraging the investment "

"virtually limitless amount of bandwidth"

"organizations can reap the benefits"

"turned the spotlight on"

"further leveraging the original investment"

"win-win situation"

"service providers can save thousands of dollars in capital equipment"

"Tried and proven in the LAN"

"the undisputed heavyweight champion of the high-speed IP and metro access services"

"Tried and proven in the LAN" (again)

For comparison, take a look at the Network switch article, which doesn't appear to be written by someone selling network switches. Instead it discusses how they operate. I've contribution in mind,[edit]

I did a lot of work at a (UK) location recently where I looked for, found and used most types of FO Media Converters. I would like the information I learned to be recorded in a WP page for others to use and this looks like the best one.

I have no intention or need to be at all commercial and I think this should make life easier form the start.

As stated, the article as it stands is a good base for what I want to add and little if any of it would be deleted. My intention is to add sections on how each need was approached and satisfied in a telephony switching, VTC and data environment. I will start in a few days, let's say New Year 2012 and if anyone has any comments, please let me klnow.
