MOVE because there may be roller hockey, inline hockey, indoor hockey at the Summer Olympics in the future. Ccccccccccc 06:30, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hardball hockey - Roller Hockey was at the Olympics, 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Ccccccccccc 22:14, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And as I said on the CFD page, it's just a demonstration sport. — sjorford (talk) 09:27, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - A more descriptive title - Hockey is a little vague. Ian13|talk 17:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, for the reasons explained by Sjorford. We could add a link on top of the page "For Roller hockey at the Olympics, see Hardball hockey at the Summer Olympics" when such a page will exist. Lvr 09:46, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Follow the official usage. CalJW 11:16, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note: see also Category:Hockey at the Summer Olympics, which is also up for renaming.

"Nation's" section[edit]

What's the urpose of thit section ? Is it in a final state ? Lvr 11:20, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eventually, to show which nations have competed and at which tournaments. It's far from finished. -- Jonel | Speak 15:23, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Field hockey at the Summer OlympicsHockey at the Summer Olympics — Both organisations neither FIH nor IOC use field hockey, they just name it as hockey, or can be say official name also, i knew that is other type of hockey, like ice hockey which also is a Olympic sport, but IOC name it as Ice Hockey, Wikipedia is much prefer to official name Aleenf1 06:26, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Add any additional comments:

  • I do agree the "Field" is wrong according to the official names, but for clarity reasons I would prefer to keep it. Besides, there was already a disucssion on that issue. What was the output of it ? Keep also in mind that renaming the article would also mean renaming the category. Lvr 14:41, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Olympic Hockey" redirect[edit]

Why does "Olympic Hockey" redirect here? I typed that in looking for an article on Olympic Ice Hockey which is a much more popular sport than Field Hockey.Failureofafriend (talk) 00:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because Field Hockey is referred to as "Hockey" by the IOC while Ice Hockey is referred to as "Ice Hockey" by the IOC. Simple as that.Fox334 (talk) 15:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spain's silver in 1980[edit]

When Spain won silver in the men's Field Hockey tournament in 1980, they did so under the Olympic flag. This is why we should replace the Spanish flag whit the Olympic flag under the "Medallist" section for the 1980 games. Fox334 (talk) 22:44, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nations medalist table[edit]

Germany is counted as three teams and therefore ranked below other nations, whereas Great Britain is just counted as one team although it won gold, silver and bronze as England, Ireland and Scotland during the first Olympics. This is certainly imbalanced. The same is true for the flag, since the teams did not win under the Union Jack.99.2.25.129 (talk) 15:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whether we like it or not we can't be changed it. The medal counts is for NOC, not countries. Germany has had 4 different NOCs over the years (Germany, East Germany, West Germany and the Unified Team Germany), so they have to be included as different nations on the table. The IOC, unlike FIFA, does not declare "successor nations" to defunct NOCs. Fox334 (talk) 13:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
not really true. if it was by NOCs than Germany, Unified Team of Germany and West Germany (there never was a country West Germany that was the Federal Republic of Germany and that is the same state/government/system/constitiution as todays Germany which is the Federal Republic of Germany - in 1990 the two Germanies did not for a new country, the East joint the West) would be one count bacause they all are/were the representive team of the German Olypic Comitee (German Olympic Sports Federation since 2006) only the German Democratic REpublic (socalld East Germany) had an own NOC (the NOC of the GDR) - there have been only the German NOC and the NOC of the GDR (the last one was the East, the other one was all the other entries)
the claim that it where different NOCs (exept the GDR one) is factually NOT TRUE 134.3.76.108 (talk) 22:47, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that the current way we do this is to count by NOC, and that therefore everything except GDR gets combined because (as the IP notes) the other appearances were under the same NOC. If that's not the way this page is set up, it should be changed to conform with this. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 13:29, 4 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
the IOC has no official all-time medal counts (it only uses medal counts for single games) and it has declared it refuses them.

Its clearly flawed. India has not won gold 8 times. Pakistan and India were one country under British Indian empire under those games. Why are the victories tallied up to India? Even most of the names in the British Indian team are Muslim. Surely British India needs its own category. Xinjao (talk) 19:38, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the same for all sports (cricket, soccer) and the official records tally say India won gold 8 times--sss333 (talk) 03:12, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
well it was India, Pakistan did not exist back then85.195.69.112 (talk) 07:32, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thing is Pakistan is a muslim country but India is a secular one, Hindus and Muslims are treated equally,(or at least the law is somewhat in favor of Muslims) and we have a large enough muslim population in India. So even if the players were Muslim, they were Indians. what is the splash coming off the surface in women's game 2012? Is the surface wet? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robinrobin (talkcontribs) 20:25, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
