Byzantine Empire[edit]

did you read your cite? you are reversing the author literally says.

Jelavich says in your cite: "The basic objective of the society was organizing an uprising against the Ottoman emprei with the aim of establishing a Greek state"

You say Jelavich says the aim was not a state but an empire. In fact you have it backwards. Jelavich says the aim was a STATE. Googling the misrepresentation of Jelavich you made I can only find such a claim on very right wing Turkish nationalist sites. Syntactic Issue[edit]

I found

Filiki, Filike, Philiki, Philike with Eteria, Etairia, Etaireia, Etereia, Hetairia

which looks like, and technically is, word-salad. Separating words with slashes doesn't AFAIK constitute a clear and standard definition of the syntactic structure, but IMO the following fragment of the sentence ~~is assimilable with less effort~~ is clearer:

... has been transliterated in numerous publications as various combinations of Filiki/Filike/Philiki/Philike with Eteria/Etairia/Etaireia/Etereia/Hetairia.

Hmm. I think ~~this~~ the following expresses exactly the same set of English spellings; is it any more comprehensible, or just wierder?:

as variants of Filiki Eteria, specifically: F/Ph + ilik + i/e, followed either by Hetairia or by Ete/Etai + reia/ria.

Let me try that last indented portion again:

... as variants of Filiki Eteria, specifically: (F/Ph)ilik(i/e), followed either ~~by Hetairia or~~ by (Ete/Etai)(reia/ria) or by Hetairia

and then break the H-less variants of "Hetairia" into smaller pieces, with

Ete/Etai + reia/ria or by...

becoming

Et(e/ai)r(e)ia), or by...

which i prefer bcz it helps make it more explicit that the variants are tiny differences in the transliteration of vowel sounds, in nearly all cases (specifically, with the exception of whether aspiration of the leading vowel is explicitly indicated).

Extraneous image "Fighting in Bucharest (1821)"[edit]

Suggest deleteion. What does the image "Fighting in Bucharest (1821)" have to do with this article about expat Greeks in Russia forming a secret society, and then migrating closer to Greece? (I'm not saying that it's NOT relevant, but no relevance is shown in this article, except for an unrelated mention of additional members in "Wallachia".)
