Spotted Lanternfly Edit[edit]

Hello fellow wiki users, I added a small paragraph to this page about the spotted lanternfly and its recent spread to New York. I briefly discussed how devastating its effects on the wine industry can be. please review my edits and determine whether or not you agree that these edits should be included on this page. Vague thoughts that I don't have time to properly source[edit]

I live in the Finger Lakes and can't recall ever having heard a comparison specifically to the Rhine (although off the top of my head, I can't think of anywhere that I *have* heard a comparison to in a general sense, as opposed to in relation to a specific varietal, so I may just not spend enough time talking with the sort of people who make such comparisons). I definitely agree with Riesling being the white variety that best fits into the sentence pattern "If you like [variety], I highly recommend checking out the [variety]s from the Finger Lakes." (Put another way, maybe something like "highest product of 'more commonly planted in the region than in the US as a whole' and 'grows better in the region than in the US as a whole'."

I feel like a mention of Cabernet Franc as the analogous red variety would be in order, if someone can find a suitable source to cite for that. It's definitely not the most planted in absolute terms (even among vinifera), but it's *very* widely planted relative to the US as a whole, and the soil and climate suit it very well indeed. 2603:7081:7E3E:DB14:EC1C:5195:27A1:E02C (talk) 09:56, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
