Worldview?

I couldn't see any failure to demonstrate a worldview, so have removed the category. Anyone who disagrees might like to post their reasons so we can improve the articles. El T 06:54, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

There is a deficiency here of a global view: There is nothing about fire stations in developing countries, where equipment used in developed countries is not used. With regards to developed countries fire stations (which the article currently appears to describe) there is still a lack of balance: for example "ladder 49" and other references seem to be specifically of the USA. --jrleighton 12:35, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

What?

Why is it that "Fire Department" redirects here? This makes no sense. I think there should be a seperate article for "Fire Department".—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kormerant (talk • contribs) date.

A fire department is sometimes known as a fire station. A fire department can be a physical place: Every Thursday, I go to the fire department because I volunteer there. Depends on where you're from. A fire company/fire department can be a group of people, the organization, and a fire department/fire station can be the physical building. I think thought Fire Department was a government agency... i.e. the Random Town Fire Department. Perhaps a seperate article referring to a fire department as an agency, and then a disambiguation page for the two would make sense? --Tech Nerd 20:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

This is possible. Remember that there is a volunteer fire department article. I think we can have a cobined government agency "Fire department" and "volunteer fire department" article. I don't mind a "fire department" article. How about this: bring it up on the Fire services WikiProject talk page; and it can be talked about there. Good idea! Also, it should be noted that sometimes non-volunteer fire departments have volunteer firefighters in addition to the regular ones. Sounds good. I also agree on your comment on volunteer firefighters, and it all varies. Back home, we are a volunteer department- we own our station and apparatus- but we have career professional staff who are paid by the County that supplement us during the day. Conversely, here at school, the department is an actual company, a business, that owns their station and apparatus, and has a paid-staff crew, but also allows volunteers to run and stuff. Oh! Look what I just found! Apparently, there is an article Firefighter, that talks about fire departments as well, and there is also an article about firefighting. So there's something like three similar articles floating around here - Fire Station, Firefighting, Firefighter and now we're proposing Fire Department. Maybe some of these articles need to be merged... Or perhaps at least what needs to be done is have a short article explaining what a fire department is and how it is different from other things, then have it basically say "now go look at the fire fighting page", and further develop that page to reflect what we've talked about here. History section leaves us hanging

The history section remarks how insurance companies set up firefighting services to protect their clients' property, but would sometimes block a rival company's efforts. Then the section stops without explaining how this rather dastardly behaviour was resolved - "reason prevailed"? Or did the city or a higher level of government step in and mandate fire fighting as a public protective service? Please continue the story! GBC (talk) 05:22, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
