Untitled[edit]

I essentially added the sentence, "The British police are generally unarmed", to give the section context. The previous version of the article did not denote the Firearms Unit as a British police function. I also added links to SWAT, and Armed Response Vehicles.

Merge with Specialist Firearms Command?[edit]

Could this be usefully merged with Specialist Firearms Command? There seems to be quite a lot of overlap, but this isn't really my area. --McGeddon (talk) 19:18, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the merge of the firearms unit its not a good idea they are completely different it would confuse terribly. The Firearms Unit Article explains what it is, where as Specialist Firearms Command has a different agenda of policing and has different history, trust me its not a good idea. SFOs and AFOs[edit]

do non-met forces distinguish between them? ninety:one 15:58, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, although outside of the met forces have small reserves of SFOs due to them only being required for a barricaded hostage situation. And they only are called when it is deemed for Special Air Service not to assualt which is rare. Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs) 16:03, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, thanks for cleaning up those refs. Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs) 16:04, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is the opposite - it is extremely rare for the SAS to be involved, i.e Iranian Embassy sige in 1980. They cannot get involved in domestic policing - only terrorist sieges/hostage situations which are thankfully very very rare - plane hijackings etc. All forces have a SFO capability for Dynamic Entry/Intervention tactics and they are supplelmented by mutual aid from surrounding forces providing a regional response. Wipedia ought not to be the mouthpiece of politically correct smokescreening![edit]

"Criminals are less likely to carry firearms due to United Kingdom gun laws...".

This is so incredibly dumb (and untrue to boot) that it defies belief.

Added template message for the whole page[edit]

Hi there,

I've added a template message for multiple issues. This is because a) multiple assertions are made without being cited and b) there is an over reliance on reference 3 (Waldren, 2007). I would say that I am rather confident about 'b)' being correct but I am not particularly experienced at wikiing so I would appreciate if someone could review my decision in regards to 'a)'.

Thanks very much. QuadColour (talk) 20:00, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
