Firebox (moonshine)[edit]

In moonshining, the firebox is a stone structure where the fuel, typically wood, is burned to produce heat to boil a mash for distillation.

good point . ive tried to add a brief discussion of this into the article. Joan-of-arc 04:12, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

too locomotive-centered[edit]

firebox is used in many applications. this article is still too centered on the locomotive elements. Joan-of-arc 04:19, 2 July 2006 (UTC)`[reply]

Since this page was created on November 14 2004, it's interesting that this claim hasn't come up before. Sounds like it may be time to rebuild this as a disambiguation page. I would suggest Firebox (locomotive) for the rail transport meaning. Slambo (Speak) 13:58, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
i think your idea of splitting the articles is a good one. it may be august before i can add much of the material i would like to, and ill be glad to do all the edititorial work involved to achieve the split at that time. in the mean time i wont tamper any more with the article. i assume the new article reflecting locomotives would be Firebox (locomotive). cant figure out yet what to call the other article as it imbraces a number of facets. regards. As you will see, I have split the page into three separate ones. Hopefully this will improve matters somewhat. Ollie 03:11, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have added sections on non-railway fireboxes. Biscuittin (talk) 09:41, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think you have done some good work on this and made space for more on non-loco types, but actually, having thought about it again, I would question the whole rationale of the article. It seems to me that the firebox is so much an essentially integral part of the boiler as a whole, that an article describing, in detail, the features of the fireboxes of a whole range of boilers, separately from the descriptions of the boilers themselves, is not a very good idea. I think the present situation is likely to lead to duplication and confusion. I think I would prefer to see a short generalised article with links to the articles for the boilers in question. But that is just what I think. Tonight. Globbet (talk) 21:57, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

relocated unsourced trivia to here[edit]

In 1920, Russian revolutionaries Sergey Lazo, Vsevolod Sibirtsev, and Alexei Lutsky were burnt to death in a firebox of a steam engine by the Japanese[citation needed].

Fair use rationale for Image:Loco boiler HSE.png[edit]

Image:Loco boiler HSE.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Locomotive diagram accuracy[edit]

I'm concerned about the accuracy of some diagrams recently added. I've started a discussion thread at WikiProject Trains#Locomotive diagram quality. Andy Dingley (talk) 22:51, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brick Arch[edit]

"There is a large brick arch (made from fire brick) at the front of the box which directs heat and flames back towards the firedoor at the rear." Why would you want to direct heat and flames towards the fire door? That doesn't make any sense. Charles Pergiel 50.43.44.229 (talk) 01:36, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
