Categorization by year[edit]

There appear to be conflicting sources as to whether this is a 1983 or a 1984 game. Most references I can find list this as a 1983 game, but atarihq.com gives 1984 as the year since, according to their website, it debuted at the 1984 Amuseument Showcase International in Chicago. Seeing as how atarihq [1] currently provides the incorrect year for the film by the same name, I am not sure how reliable they are as a source for this release and have recategorized this into Category:1983 arcade games. Virtually all other online databases and similar resources date this as a 1983 release, likely because that is what appears on the title screen. If this is incorrect or not the norm for categorizing, please leave me a note on my talk page. Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 21:29, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just ran across this, I stand by the 1984 release date we have at AtariHq.Com. Protos were shown at the '83 October New Orleans AMOA show and it was planned to be put in to production at the time. However, it kept getting delayed. Per Atari's internal vax emails (copies of which are up at former Atari Inc./Atari Games employee Jed Margolin's site), "And to my knowledge, Coin-op has yet to sacrifice quality to get an on-time delivery. Firefox was supposed to start production 1/23/84; millions in parts are all staged ready for production, but it has not started (1/31/84) because the software is not ready." In fact at the AtariGames site you referenced, there are further memos from Jed stating status of the main board schematics that were still being worked on in December of '83. The operations and service manual, which is shipped with the machine, also reflects the 1984 release date. Gave links to the above references accordingly and changed the date back. What most likely is going on is what you said, the online databases are going by the software copyright date shown on the screen. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 03:03, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added Gameplay info and proper sections[edit]

I added Gameplay info and created sections for the different contents (Gameplay, Development, etc.) and I also added a mention about the unreliability and overreliance on the certain model of Laserdisc player used. Also, FF wasn't Atari's only LD game, they also did a Crime Patrol-esque game based on COPS in 1994: http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/pages/c.asp

Article photo[edit]

The article photo REALLY needs to be changed as the cabinet shown has been modified to play games besides Firefox. The control panel is not original to Firefox and doesn't have the trademark flight yoke. 2A02:C7F:50E5:CE00:70D7:F55:C665:E7B1 (talk) 16:09, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New photo (badly) needed![edit]

Hi

Just wanted to say that this article could really use a better photo. The cabinet shown has been modified and has a two-player control setup added which probably indicates that the machine has been converted to a multi-game machine/MAME.

I currently own an Atari Firefox upright model (#UR00343) which is a dedicated machine running original hardware including the Laserdisc player and would be happy to provide a photograph of my machine. 2A02:C7F:5050:A500:2447:F3BE:BD70:A062 (talk) 04:57, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
