Merger proposal (2018): Fisker Inc. + Fisker Automotive[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
No Merge -- proposal failed

I propose that Fisker Automotive be merged into Fisker Inc. The main reason to merge the pages is for context and clarity, because the history of Fisker Inc. cannot be properly understood without that of Fisker Automotive. The history of Fisker Automotive should be condensed and merged into the Fisker Inc. page because the two are essentially the same company, with Fisker Inc. a restart of Fisker Automotive. Both were founded by Henrik Fisker; both use the Fisker name and both make electric vehicles; they have the exact same logo; fiskerautomotive.com redirects to fiskerinc.com; and the Fisker Karma electric sedan (produced by Fisker Automotive) is a predecessor to Fisker Inc.'s EMotion electric sedan. When Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2014, it was only the Fisker Karma car design that was sold to Wanxiang (and later made into Karma Automotive), and not the Fisker name or company. It is confusing for Wikipedia users looking for information about Fisker to find separate articles for Fisker Automotive and Fisker Inc., as one says the company is bankrupt and the other that the company has been restarted and is launching new vehicles and technologies. It will be clearer to have the information on the company in a single article. --96.90.109.27 (talk) 14:43, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong oppose They are not the same company. Fisker Automotive is a notable company on its own. The tooling for Fisker Automotive and its only model were bought up by Wanxiang to start Karma Automotive. Please do not conflate two different topics. There is no RESTART, Fisker Inc does not make the products of Fisker Automotive, nor does it use the same technology. There are many companies on Wikipedia with separate articles that were started by the same founder in the same industry. The Fisker name was granted to Wanxiang for a number of use to use on the car if they wished, with the sale. Further, Henrik Fisker has other companies named Fisker, like Fisker Coachbuild. We do not merge articles into each other just because they provide background. That's why we have hyperlinks. We don't include how to understand math into physics articles. We don't the entire biography of Henrik Fisker into Fisker Inc to undetstand his motivation for creating the company. -- 67.70.34.69 (talk) 03:13, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Fisker Automotive is much more closely related to Karma Automotive, so if anything, it should go there, and not here, since all the tooling, technology, parts and product went there. But it shouldn't go anywhere, since it is a notable company that existed and died on its own. -- 67.70.34.69 (talk) 03:17, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I suggest clarification should be added to all three of the pages in question; however, the pages should be kept separate, because of the reasons stated above. I believe the best course of action is to add a universal paragraph in the beginning of all three pages giving an overview of how all three companies were formed to make it easier for readers to understand quickly. • Paragraph Outline The included points in the paragraph should be: The creation of Fisker Automotive, the dissolution of Fisker Automotive, the creation of Karma Automotive after the the Wanxiang group obtained the Karma vehicle design, and the creation of Fisker Inc by Henrik Fisker (adding that Henrik Fisker retained the Fisker logo and brand, which is why the logos of Fisker Automotive and Fisker Inc are identical).
