Talk:Flag of Plymouth

I've finally set up a page for the Flag of Plymouth, inspired by the pages for Flag of Chicago and Flag of Devon. There isn't much material I can find casually on the flag, but it does have a long history, and is well known, at least to the locals. It regularly flies at the Civic Centre and Guildhall, and it reproduces symbology from the coat of arms, and other symbols in the city. What we could do with, if this article is to have legs, is for someone to do an svg file for the flag, as the picture I shot on my mobile shows a flag that is a little worse for wear. That svg could then be put onto the Plymouth page if desired, etc. The flag is symmetrical about its centre. The exact tones of the flag I can't be sure about - black, white, darkish green and scarlet - I would suggest it is the same green as the Flag of Devon. Both the images are zero-waiver and done by me - if anyone can do a proper nice photo that might also be good. Cheers. Stevebritgimp (talk) 01:45, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tower symbols[edit]

From my own memory the four towers specifically represented four forts surrounding Plymouth. My question is which forts and from what era. The city has always been fortified, and places like the Citadel have been built to replace older forts like the Castle at the Hoe. The last round of fort building was the Palmerston Forts of the 1860s, such as Crownhill Fort. Does the flag refer to these late forts or to earlier ones - I really don't know.
