Shade - council flag[edit]

The shade of blue in this pictue is far too light. The blue used on the actual flag is far closer to the blue on the Union Jack. Dainamo (talk) 01:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)+[reply]

The lack of good source material was of some concern when I created that image a few years ago. It's easy enough to fix if I can get a decent photo or some other primary resource. I left a message on your talk page. Dyfsunctional (talk) 17:05, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've re-drawn the flag (it needed to be done anyway; the previous version was a clunky conversion from a Corel Draw file). The new flag has a deeper shade of blue. It's on the Commons, but there are some cache issues, so for the next day or so the old and new flags might display intermittently. Dyfsunctional (talk) 03:15, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Contoversial?[edit]

The following cooments were added by an anonomous user to the page concering the new flag:

This vote is highly controversial amongst Islanders, because you could only vote if you bought a copy of the local paper and sent in the voting slip printed inside, photocopies of the voting slip were not allowed effectively forcing you to pay to vote. many Island residents are unhappy with the choice of flag. There were only 160 votes and the winning design won by 3 votes.

I have removed it as, while I have sympathy for this view (might I add the vote was on a shortlist of four designs and not all submitted entries) it is annecdotal, and needs a source. Additionaly, writing in the second person in not in keeping with accepted style. Dainamo (talk) 01:53, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial? I'm sure it is. It looks like Pacman after a night on the town.--MacRusgail (talk) 16:20, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The local paper ( the IOW County Press) has an incrdibly high circulation in excess of 80% so this was not entirely unfair. Personally I cannot see what is the function of the waves at the bottom are assuming that the upper half represents the IOW in a blue sea.--Streona (talk) 19:39, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The circulaion fgiures are around 40,000 which is more like 30%. They also claim 90% look at the county press but among either of these figure there are many who get it for certain sections. There was also no web back up for those who had missed the two editions featuring entry forms or just wanting to know deadlines. But this is all irrelevant since the entries were narrowed down to four which fitted the self-appoiinted committee's own narrow vision which seemed to all have some sort quasi-map of the Island on it. Unimaginatvie considering the wealth of historical symbols otherwise available. Dainamo (talk) 12:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
