Page moves[edit]

This article was originally entitled Flightstar Sportplanes Flightstar which is actually the correct name in accordance with WikiProject Aircraft naming guidelines, which, for civil aircraft mandates "manufacturer, model". In the this case the manufacturer is "FlightStar Sportplanes" and the aircraft model line is the "Flightstar". User:Docu moved the article to Flightstar Sportplanes with the edit summary "redund." The major problem with this is that the article about a series of aircraft was moved to the article title that would be used for the company article about the manufacturer itself. It is analogous to moving the article on Microsoft Windows (a product) to Microsoft (a company that produces the product). In other words the product (Flightstar line of aircraft) is not the same as the company that produces the product, even though the names that the company chose for itself and for the product are confusingly similar. To try to remedy this problem I have again moved the article to Flightstar Sportplanes (company name) Flightstar series (model line). Hopefully there will one day be an article about the manufacturer at Flightstar Sportplanes. - Ahunt (talk) 13:48, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this one the only category with such repetitions or is it generalized? I would guess that the reason for a convention "Manufacturer, Model" is that the name of the model doesn't necessarily identify the manufacturer. No there are a few other manufacturers where the manufacturer's name and the model line name are the same or similar, such as Sonex Aircraft Sonex. The problems with something like "Flightstar (aircraft)" are three fold 1. It confuses the manufacturer with the aircraft line, 2. The manufacturer may make other aircraft outside this line and 3. In WikiProject Aircraft we try to avoid making any article title with "brackets aircraft", as there is always a better route to go that is more accurate and encyclopedic. I recently started Mini-MAX, which as its talk page explains should properly have been called JDT Mini-MAX Mini-MAX, since the company is JDT Mini-MAX and the aircraft line id called Mini-MAX. I went with just Mini-MAX to avoid the confusing nomenclature. If the current title worries you we could go with "Flightstar series" or something similar. - Ahunt (talk) 14:31, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Out of curiosity, does Flightstar make any other aircraft, or plan to? (not that this necessarily matters; we wouldn't want to limit the naming now, preventing easy addition of new aircraft in the future.) -SidewinderX (talk) 14:41, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are dealers for BRS, Rotax, HKS engines, Lockwood Aircraft supplies and the Leza-Lockwood Air Cam and Flight Design CT series of aircraft. - Ahunt (talk) 14:55, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a result of the page-moves described above, this article had a self-reference problem, in that Flightstar Sportplanes which is linked in Flightstar Sportplanes Flightstar series, redirected back to Flightstar Sportplanes Flightstar series. Rather than remove the link, I have written the article on the manufacturer instead and it is now in place of the redirect at Flightstar Sportplanes. - Ahunt (talk) 15:32, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't want to use (aircraft) as disambiguation, an other solution could be to name the article just "Flightstar". There isn't any other article with that title, so I think it would fit nicely. -- 签名 _sig at 06:27, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is possible and I wouldn't have any objections to it, since I did something similar with Mini-MAX, although Flightstar is currently a redirect to this page, so it would have to be deleted by an admin to make way for the move. - Ahunt (talk) 13:07, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Specification[edit]

The specifications for length are incorrect according to the company website. ^[1] Ahunt can you please help me properly fix the page since you reverted my change --Maverick2245 (talk) 01:18, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
