Untitled[edit]

This page isn't about floor vibration which is caused by natural frequencies of the overall structure. Interesting to note that the US has a design guide on this but what does it say? Do not presume that other countries do not also have guides (and CAD/CAM).

POV[edit]

I have been working hard on one major flaw of this article: A POV (aka Point of View). When articles are written, they need to not use first person or unverifyable information. Forgive me for having to reword and remove sections, but this article was very different from what is requested here at Wikipedia. Hmm[edit]

This is a strange article - I totally agree that it does not meet the Wikipedia standard. It appears to be more of a manual on how to build a dance floor. I think that this aspect needs to be removed. I shall have to see if I can make some time to propose alternatives, since the article does not really seem to address the full topic of floor vibrations.

Floor vibration can be "caused" by excitation from a number of sources, typically impact loads or rhythmic loading, such as that caused by rotating or oscillating machinery or heel impact from pedestrians. The level of "response" is related to the interaction of the loading and the structure, which is a function of the inertia and the natural frequencies (multiple) of the structure (and can also be complicated by the influence of the dynamic properties of the source). There are certainly guidelines from other countries. The Steel Construction Institute in the UK has guidelines and the Concrete Centre in the UK now has a new guide that in my opinion goes beyond both the AISC and SCI documents. --Muchado 02:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Construction is covered elsewhere[edit]

The article Sprung floor covers the various constructions of dance floors and refers to a FAQ on constructing ones own floor. If there was anywhere for most of the contents of this article it would be there - but I'm not sure there is anything suitable for wiki to go there. I've referred to this artcle 'Floor vibration' as an issue for floors from Floor but as Muchado says it doesn't actually have much about what the problem is, what makes it bad, what standards there are or the major ways it is combatted. Removal of Dance floor construction[edit]

I amremoving the danc floor construcion part of this articlewhich will leave very little over. I can't see anything which should be copied over to the sprung flooror performance surface articles. This article also describes in summary part of the testing procedure for standards for floors but in a very cursory way.
