forum/club links[edit]

I removed the following forum/club links from the page:

  • www.maverickbuffet.com "Maverick/Comet Buffet" Forum
  • mmb.maverick.to Maverick/Comet Discussion Forum
  • www.fordmaverick.com FordMaverick.com Website
  • www.maverickcometclub.org Maverick/Comet Club International
  • www.maverickcometgroup.com MCG Maverick Comet Group

Could each of them be discussed here, and readded when they are notable enough to be included (please show consensus here!). For maverickbuffet.com first de-blacklisting needs to be requested, also for that consensus here is needed. Thanks. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:40, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the following 4 sites should be included in the external links. They provide a wealth of detailed information about these cars as well as many images. Please comment with agreements/disagreements.
  • www.fordmaverick.com FordMaverick.com Website
  • www.maverickcometclub.org Maverick/Comet Club International
  • www.maverickcometgroup.com MCG Maverick Comet Group

I find it funny that with more than 9000 registered members, www.maverick.to is not considered "notable" here! Especially when compared to "maverickbuffet" as 'Runningman' did. That site has not been around NEARLY as long and I doubt they have 1% of the membership as maverick.to forums. Just a thought. All you have to do is go to the sites and see how far back they are dated, and how many registered users they have. All of them combined wouldn't equal the age and membership of maverick.to. Just a heads up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.149.251.36 (talk) 19:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Check the link. Maverick.to goes back to at least 3/20/98 that I can prove. I can't prove it, but I believe it was around before this, just through a different server system. http://maverick.to/archives/mmb1/one/messages/1.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.221.162.237 (talk) 20:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree that maverick.to should be on the entry. I think it's a great site. It is true that the other message boards do not have as much traffic, but I don't think all of them should be excluded. I also think the club links should be included. Maverick.to has a wealth of information for those interested in these cars, like I state above. If we can add these to the links, I think it would be a great addition to the entry. --Runningman1996 (talk) 13:45, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

How about this new site not alot of members but definately a good start http://mavericksunlimited.webs.com/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.44.1.16 (talk) 22:59, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Why are there links in the reference section for Mustangs? These articles do not mention Mavericks. Perhaps we could add links to articles specifically about Mavericks. I will post some when I find them. --Runningman1996 (talk) 18:21, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not interested in accuracy. They're a bunch of unreasonable idiots. Does that answer your question?... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.70.210.41 (talk) 06:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I will remove these reference links as they have nothing to do with Mavericks or Comets. If someone knows of similar articles that are Maverick/Comet specific, please post them. --Runningman1996 (talk) 13:26, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing the links in the reference section. One link is invalid. The other has no reference to North American Ford Mavericks. It is an article about Ford Mustangs. --Runningman1996 (talk) 19:50, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After reviewing the article, I understand why these links were included (as reference to Mustang sales numbers). I have reverted my changes and updated the bad link. --Runningman1996 (talk) 19:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

External Links[edit]

The article posted in the external links is related to the new Maverick SUV, not the 1970-1977 Ford Maverick. Ford Maverick presentation in Geneva, February 29, 2000 --Runningman1996 (talk) 18:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the link that referenced the newer Maverick SUV and added a link to a site with detailed 1970-1977 Maverick history. --Runningman1996 (talk) 19:44, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

I laughed when I saw that photo. Surely someone can come up with a more flattering pic sans a For Sale sign?TheDarkOneLives (talk) 23:37, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And the black on black chop-top makes it seem like mavericks are 10 times cooler than they are. It should really be labeled that it's a customized car. It looks like a 4door pantera.Grabba (talk) 01:16, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2 doors coupe[edit]

The 2 doors Maverick is a coupe, not sedan. Eduardo César Schmidt (talk) 21:19, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ford referred to the 2-door Maverick as a sedan. --Sable232 (talk) 14:19, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lead image[edit]

After the recent back-and-forth with the lead infobox image, concerns were raised that the image of the gold 1974 is the incorrect color and has aftermarket wheels. Looking at the other images available, I propose using the image of the white 1972 Sprint (seen at right) instead. The photo is taken from the correct angle, has a reasonably neutral background, and depicts a car in unmodified condition. --Sable232 (talk) 22:20, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Given the lack of comments, I've made the change. --Sable232 (talk) 14:19, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to remove revival section[edit]

The Ford Maverick (2022) is a compact pickup truck with little relationship to the 1970s compact car aside from the name. In addition, Ford told in an interview that the new compact pickup truck was not named after the 1970s compact car. 𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕞𝕚𝕔𝕕𝕣𝕒𝕘𝕠𝕟𝟙𝟛𝟞 🗨️ 🖊️ 16:34, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Source please? BilCat (talk) 17:56, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whether Ford claims the shared name is unintentional or otherwise probably doesn't matter - a pickup isn't a "revival" of a 1970s compact sedan by any measure. The section should be removed. --Sable232 (talk) 21:39, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whether or not it is accurate about the choice of the name, it is still unrelated in development --𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕞𝕚𝕔𝕕𝕣𝕒𝕘𝕠𝕟𝟙𝟛𝟞 🗨️ 🖊️ 21:31, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
While both points have merits, it does represent the return of the Maverick name to the North American market, and as such probably deserves some mention, even if just to point out that Ford states they're not a revival. BilCat (talk) 01:30, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going ahead and removing it 𝕒𝕥𝕠𝕞𝕚𝕔𝕕𝕣𝕒𝕘𝕠𝕟𝟙𝟛𝟞 🗨️ 🖊️ 18:17, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the removal. Maverick was just an unused trademarked name Ford chose for its new compact truck which has nothing to do with the 70s compact car but is a rugged name that's very appropriate for use on a truck or SUV. The name was also used on first generation Ford Escapes exported to Europe. Watchdevil (talk) 03:06, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
